I never played those either. I only played yellow as a kid and bought XY recently. I never even RNG'd but I don't see it as cheating since it is made in game. Something like Gen is cheating since you create it outside the game and inject it in.

The main difference is RNG is cheating the circumstances involved to get the Pokemon, while hacking is cheating to get the Pokemon. it's a pretty simplified explanation, and i'm sure someone else could explain it better

Except that I do know what it is about by reading it. People use a program to set up the perfect circumstances of the poke they want through timing everything. In the end they get what they want all from the game without modifying the data in it. The program is just a guide just like anyone looks up shit on the internet. It's not cheating deal with it.

It's actually not that hard to get decent IVs anymore and hordes/super training have made EVs nearly effortless. It's silly to even imagine there are Pokemon players who still need a cheat to cut edges off such simplistic mechanical changes.

My favorite thing about X/Y so far, as been the cleanliness of it all.

I know every Pokemon I trade for is legit, as are the ones I'm trading away. It makes the breeding process more rewarding, as its the only means to get a good 'mon.

Once the bank comes in, the game will be tainted. There's no way they'll be able to detect if I load up a white 2 rom and pump wings into my 'mon to EV train them.

GF needs to make HP a choice.
Make everstone guarantee the ability as well as the nature if used on a female.
Allow males to pass on pokeballs if paired with ditto.
Tone down the fucking 12.5% female rate of some pokes.

That's all that's left really. I mean there's the 0 SPE and 0 ATK shit but that is more controllable. Pokes with no gender is annoying but Idk if anything can be done about that. Maybe limit them to legendary only.

Oh and allow us to breed ditto together with a special item.

I think the point here is if gamefreak have a check to determine the poke is legit (i.e. whatever the process is that generates the blue pentagon) then why not block everything via pokebank that does not pass that check

and if the answer is 'you can fool the check' then the blue pentagon is meaningless anyway and this is not news

it's well known that genned pokes could pass the previous available checks, so i assume GF have a new method now or really we are talking about nothing

Probably hacking a pokémon will be way harder, I can give that, but it won't be impossible to hack a mon making it legal in my opinion.
Also only retards and kids make pokémon with bullshit moves and stats, but the competitive players tend to make possible mons.
Everyone who says that pokègen ruins the online play should check it now that you can't hack, it's already "ruined", perfect IVs everywhere and almost everyone used the same copypasted team.
I'm not justifying Pokégen, but t's not the main cause for ruining the metagame, maybe sometimes it's even the contrary, because it allows you to make original (and legal) teams that you will never use otherwise because you don't want spend hours breeding for something it may delude you, so you just pick the easier choice spamming a copypasted team.

We'll just see, any thread about this for the moment it's stupid, unless we have a Xatu among us.

The difference is, one can legitimately occur (but usually doesn't), the other cannot.
RNG in a sense sets up the situation in which a perfect Pokemon can be caught. The game says the Pokemon "just happened" to be caught with those stats so it's all good.
The hacked Pokemon needs to have the right stats/info set to be seen as legal. (as long as you set the right flags and don't use a shitty program it should be fine)

I would not give a shit about pokegen if it just kept to the battling side of things. People can rock Battle Spot with all the hackmons they want, as long as their legal.

But I know as Pokebank rolls around people are going to pollute GTS and Wonder Trade with a million 6IV shiny legionaries or whatever and that'll be the end of trading.

What you're failing to understand is that every potential Pokemon is as rare and unlikely as any other.

You walk into a cave and catch a Brave Zubat with 0/15/28/7/30/4. I walk into the same cave and catch a Jolly Zubat with 31/31/31/x/31/31. Both results are equally unlikely. Just because one result is more desirable than the other doesn't make it any rarer.

Every time you get any Pokemon, the chances of you getting that exact Pokemon are infinitely small. So small we'd almost say it was impossible. And yet that Pokemon is there, in your box. You did it: You caught an impossible Pokemon.

Of course the minmaxing metagame requires that only a tiny fraction of the millions of unique Pokemon are actually competitively viable, but don't confuse desirability with the actual rarity of the IV spread. When you say "the game wasn't designed for you to earn Pokemon that way", you're wrong; The game was designed for you to earn Pokemon in exactly this way. That's the whole point of RNG.

Not exactly. Assuming you walk into a cave where you can only encounter Zubat the chances of encountering the same pokemon twice is 31^6 X24. 24 is the number of available natures.
Characteristics are irrelevant since they're calculated from the IVs.
Also there's a third unknown factor at play here.
The Personal Values. Since gen 5 or 4 chances of encountering a shiny are calculated from PVs.
To this day there is no known way to manipulate PVs, nor are they charted, thus they are unknown.
So the actual equation is 31*6*24*X, which is little more than 21 billion times X.

Math isn't magic, shit ain't infinite just because you say so.
You want infinite? Divide by zero.

Back in 1999 no one knew what EVs and IVs were. Neither action replay nor gameshark allowed you to alter these values.
In this gen Gamefreak gave into consumer demand and simplified EV training.
IVs and EVs exist so that no two pokemon are ever the same to balance out the game and create an unpredictable element to pokemon battling.

If it is the case, I see it as a good thing. Having to either hack or have Gen 3, 4 and 5 games along with the means of transferring to be competitive just seems silly to me. That they might be doing some sort of cut-off seems fantastic, and it still allows you to use older pokemon so long as you breed them in the new games after transferring.

I think what he means is it's random, and like rolling six 31 sided die, you have the same odds of rolling each number.

It's unlikely you'll roll all 31's. But you are no more or less likely to roll all 1's or 31 6 14 22 9 7 on six 31 sided dice.

But still, considering that anything less than five 31's isn't really 'competitive' then yeah, it's really really rare to randomly roll a 'competitive' pokemon at random.

If GF is doing it in any kind of sophisticated, useful way, it will be a Pokemon that meets multiple concurrent criteria, something that needs to actually be possible in the game it is supposed to be from. For instance, a Zekrom caught on Route 1 would set off a flag, because that isn't possible without cheating. A shiny Zekrom would also do it, since you can't get one legally. All of those hidden values have to match up too, and a Pokemon can't be caught in the wild if it has Egg moves.
It all depends on how many variables BW tracks, though.

The rarity of drawing #1 in comparison to the rarity of drawing all other numbers makes the #1 more rare. It is no rarer than any other number individually, but it IS rarer than EVERY other number combined. And that was the whole argument. For all relevant purposes - e.g. for the purposes of coming across an IV combination that players actually want - competitively viable Pokemon are RARE. The same underlying logic of probability is applied to shiny Pokemon.

The point of the "Mew Catch" trick was that it exploited a programming oversight to cause the game to draw incorrect mons into the encounter table and cause Mew two appear where it wasn't intended to.

It doesn't involve external modification, but it DOES involve using the game in a way the developers didn't intend, exploiting the imperfection of their programming to do something you aren't supposed to be able to.

RNG abuse is the same; it exploits a knowledge (obtained, by the way, by hacking) of how the RNG works to force its output. FWIW, this means that it is no longer a RANDOM number generator, as it was intended to be, making it the same as mew catch; it's exploiting a programming imperfection to cause the game to yield results the developers didn't intend.

This plus trash byte integrity checking is all they've done in the past.

The blue pentagon is probably nothing more than an in-game version of the same tests they run at the VGC, so you can know in advance that your mons will pass that check (which has been a problem for VGC players in the past who got hacked mons via trade).

don't give a fuck about pokegenners this generation because you can reasonably get 6iv pokemon with Destiny Knot. In the previous generations it was incredibly, stupidly difficult to purposefully get a 6iv since only 3ivs were passed on from the parents and the other 3 had to be rolled for. with destiny knot, only 1 has to be rolled for.

it *was* a disadvantage that you couldn't reasonably account for without using illegitimate methods of getting Pokemon, but it's not anymore, and i'm pretty sure pokegenners are going to have to breed anyways for the 80 6th gen pokes, many of which are turning out to be really good in high level play

It's probably a region marker. The Kalos dex icon is close to a pentagon shape too. So even if stuff without the pentagon isn't allowed in tournaments/online battles, most of that could be resolved by breeding with Ditto.

I wonder what if the other regions would get unique symbols, or if there's only one other symbol just to signify that they aren't from Kalos.
