Usually the one who asks for the trade starts by showing one of his shit he is offering, and from that you try to guess what he wants. Usually it's pretty easy to predict. Legendary for legendary, safari mon for safari mon, version exclusive for version exclusive, shiny for shiny. If you are interested you show one of yours, then if he accepts, you trade. If he doesn't like what you are offering, he either shows something else, or doesn't show anything for a few seconds. In that case you can try again with something else. Same if you are not interested in his, you don't do anything for a few seconds, until he is sure you are not just looking through your boxes.
And then there are guys who are just giving away good shit for derps, often to new players, who don't understand why would anyone want to trade with them, and either refuse the trade, or quit after a few seconds.
