Typhlosion has always been special to me since technically I played Silver "first", before realizing Red was first chronologically.

Therefore Cyndaquil was my first ever Pokemon. Not to mention playing with Typhlosion's Eruption at the VGC (before Terrakion) was always really fun... I love the guy.

Delphox is my second favorite now though, and honestly Charizard is my third. I like Fire types.

My first game was Colosseum and he wrecked so much ass with Surf. I eventually sent him over to Emerald in which he proceeded to wreck Steven's ass

Then I picked him again in Heart Gold where he got even better because of the physical/special split, allowing him to wreck even more asses with Waterfall, Ice Fang, and Crunch.

I kind of hope that the next version of XY or whatever does gen 2 pandering to continue off the gen 1 pandering, so I can use him again. Especially if it gets its hidden ability, oh my god. Pls GF I want my Sheer Force Gator ;-;

first gen starters were great, venusaur was the only odd ball
second gen starters were great, meganium was the only odd ball due to the fact that it had the greatest design change from 2nd to 3rd
third gen starters were great, blaziken took a little bit to get used to and I never understood how people thought swampert was anything better than just 'cool'
fourth gen starters were good, the 1st and 2nd evos were a bit bland and the only qualms were with infernape. He is just a bit too humanoid, but cool nonetheless.
5th gen starters, completely different from the trend. Relatively overdesigned excluding the grass one (which is the opposite) with the water one's 3rd evo following no trends from previous evos. Like, what the fuck happened?
6th gen starters are a bit better from the previous 5th gen. It's a bit refreshing seeing the designers tone things down a bit. But there is already a fire fox, water frog, and a grass nut.

Overall Greninja is number one, but in general except for Meganium, Typhlosion, and Serperior, I like all starters.

Planning on raising really good Cyndaquils, Snivys, and Chikoritas this gen so I can try to get over my dislike of those three, especially the Gen II guys, who I used to love as a kid.

I think slapping Dragon on it, Serperior, or Feraligatr would be an incredibly faggy thing to do and I'd rather they not get Megas at all than they get Dragon type ones.

It goes from a samurai to a full fledged leader. Leaders typically went on horseback, complete with their horses wearing armor, and is an iconic image in Japan. It was a natural progression from a regular samurai and a brilliant one at that.

If I got a say, though? Feraligatr would get two, one Fighting and one Dark, Sceptile would get Dark or just stay Grass, and ol' Serperior could go Psychic or Dark I think.

But seriously, Sceptile is in the Dragon egg group, most of its sets utilize Dragon Pulse, it even naturally gets stuff like Dragon Claw and Dragon Breath

I personally think Dark would be a perfect fit for Serperior, especially given the whole serpentine contrarian theme it has going for it. People who want to slap Dragon on it are mongoloids who never wanted Serperior to be a snake to start with.

I've always been a mage type person rather than an outright fighter. So when I saw Braixen, I know in my heart this was the way to go. Sure it's not the greatest thing ever, but I like it a lot either way because it represents a wizard in a giant cloak. A lot of second stages look different from the first and final stages, though.

Charmeleon, Wartortle, and I think Marshtomp are differently coloured than their evolved forms, and Wartortle has a lot going on that Blastoise doesn't, like the ears and tail.

I think Samurott is a fantastic design, and I'd be perfectly comfortable with people disagreeing, but most people only disagree to fit in and justify it with stupid shit like "hurr durr it's quadrupedal which is bad for some reason" or "hurr durrr it goes from one animal to another, never seen that before"

My favorite as an in-game bro is Swampert. He pretty much sweeps Hoenn. as a kid he wasn't so great though, since I had to over grind to get Mud Shot to sweep the electric gym

That'd kinda ruin the design. The whole concept is that it's based off of a general/leader/whathaveyou on horseback as the evolution of a samurai, and the horseback part is something you can really only invoke with it being on all fours.

They could turn around and make his Mega into something like the emperor though and then him standing up would be okay if the design permitted - as Samurott now though, nah.

Problem is that I mostly prefer the pre-evolved forms of the starter 'mon. Delphox and Torterra are the only two I've ever used all the way to the E4.

I really think 4th gen was a high point for starters, which is weird because I usually complain that gen 4's roster was the most disappointing. But Torterra, Empoleon, and especially Infernape are all top-tier starters for me. I also rather like the gen 5 designs, though it's a shame they didn't follow in gen4's footsteps mechanically. The gen 6 designs are a little wonky but I like the inspiration and they're all really fun.

Other high points are Marshtomp for great typing, Venusaur for very consistent quality and progression through his line, and Typhlosion for just being a great idea with great execution.

Honorable mentions to Grovyle for being Archeops before Archeops, Wartortle and Dewott for being great designs that take awkward and weird evolutions, and Bayleef for having a necklace of blunts.

That is the goddamn problem.

Most boring starter design ever, same with Meganium. Meganium tries to repeat what Venusaur did (plant growing with Pokemon), but the problem with Meganium is that the Pokemon barely changes, just the plant.

I know it's not technically a 'starter' but it was the first pokemon I started with since the first game I got was Yellow.
Now when I was younger I loved pikachu because he was cute and was the mascot of the company, all that stuff. But as I got older I still found myself needing to have a pikachu on my team and I needed to level it up just right and then evolve it into a raichu.
In Yellow pikachu doesn't evolve though it does get better stats than a pikachu in Red or Blue would have. Despite there being other electric types I never gave pikachu up. He was the first pokeon I had and he was strong. I was always proud of my catches and in a FireRed run I did I ended up catching a female pikachu that I nicknamed 'Volt' and leveled up through the game.
In X and Y I have a Raichu that I even use competitively. It started out as a love of a pokemon just because it was cute and grew into loving it because it was a bro I always needed to have on my adventures. Just wasn't the same without a Pikachu or a Raichu.

Gen 2 Typhlosion: Design just clicks with me. I also enjoyed using him as a kid in G/S/C

Gen 3was Blaziken First Fire/Fighting and he wrecked shit. Instant Bro

Gen 4 was Empoleon. One of my favorite designs in the series and one of the few good designs in Gen 4. Unique typing as well.

Gen 5 would be a tie with Samurott and Emboar. The designs are cool but shame they suck so bad stat/typing/movepool wise

Gen 6 is a tie between Greninja and Chesnaught. Greninja has a really unique and quirky design along with a really unique ability and theme. Chesnaught design surprised the hell out of me and I loved it from the start. It looks so hilariously silly I couldn't help but love it. Its also the first grass stater where I genuinely enjoyed using in the main game.
