Also, it isn't 2003 anymore, so I'm not interested in a clamshell frame. As a college student, I wouldn't be carrying a DS in my pocket anyway, so that feature is also largely a real elephant. The 2DS also feels great to hold, and has all the same features (if you exclude the 3D and Stereo Sound). Speaking of sound, the 2DS still sounds fine, and becomes stereo if you use headphones.
The XL, of course still has a serperior screen, slightly better performance, and the option to view DS games in different ratios (which all look pretty good). I personally prefer the 2DS because I don't like the clamshell or 3D. If you are cool with those, I'd recommend just getting the XL.
