Why do I keep seeing people cite fire/dragon taking less damage from stealth rocks as a reason for Mega Charizard X being best Mega Charizard? He comes into battle as regular old Zard and takes entry hazard damage before he can mega evolve... or am I missing something?

You can Mega evolve and switch out.
But it's not that he takes less damage from rocks, but that he can hit every single pokemon for at least neutral damage with its STABs, except Carbink and Azumarill.

Hah, no. Anything decently fast or with decent bulk can one-shot him. Even Charizard-Y can take a chunk out of him with Dragon Pulse.

It's more that if you have to switch out as X Zard you won't take as much damage if you switch back in when SR is up. That aside it's basically a Salamance with better typing. It needs support being SR weak but a lot of Pokemon are weak to SR. Volcarona is x4 to rocks but you don't see it being called shit. That's what rapid spinners are for, people overestimate SRs as well. For starters your opponent has to set them up.

also it seems to me that SR is getting less and less distribution. It's at the point where if you want superior egg moves or abilities or what have you, you have to forego Stealth Rocks on a pokemon. Plus with Defog becoming a viable option, we may see some interesting stuff.

I hope so, Pokebank is going to bring on a ton of Stealth Rock users. In my opinion it never should have a large distribution. The whole appeal of flying types was that they avoid hazards. Stealth rocks was supposed to be the one hazard to hit them, but it does a bit too much damage. And it shouldn't be the standard. It's to the point where having the flying type is a liability. Compare Sticky Web which has very limited distribution. Ideally it should stick to mostly rock types and some ground types, and nothing else should get it.

-Without even taking SR into account, Fire/Dragon is better both offensively and defensively than Fire/Flying
-Yzard is basically just a stronger version of normal Charizard. Megas like this (like Scizor) don't usually get used very much unless you really don't have any other slot for a mega (and even then might be worse since you can't use an item)
-The main reason is that Tough Claws affects Outrage, Dragon Claw, Flare Blitz, Fire Punch. It even gets Dragon Dance, if it even needs it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that's the strongest Outrage in the game

That's a really stubborn mentality, even Smogon is praising both Megas. Charizard Y has stupidly high special attack along with Drought, Charizard X is Salamance with better typing offensively and defensively. They both have 600+ stat totals. Neither Megas are going to be allowed below OU, and Charizard is being used often enough that's it probably going to stay OU this gen.

Next you're gonna say Volcarona or Talonflame are bad because muh sneaky pebbles.

Charizard X has an amazing offensive typing, a good ability, and a great movepool. It's basically a better version of Salamence once it gets a DD up.

Charizard Y has stupid good special attack, and gets free Sun. It has one of if not THE strongest fire blast in the game. The mechanics of Megas also give it at least one free Solarbeam to hit people with. Not to mention sun can help out others too.

Basically, bot are fantastic and are at least gonna be OU this gen.
