For the Grass/Fairies, what about basing them on gumnut babies? Have gender differences, with males based on the nuts and females on the flowers. They could even have a Seviper-and-Zangoose or Durant-and-Heatmor-esque relationship with banksia-based Pokemon.

Someone said they were going to save all of the ideas, so I was trusting that. I wasn't fully invested in the idea after posting the thread as I went off and did my own thing for a while, then I came back to see how popular the thread had become and now I'm all for it.

Extended rail lines.

This sounds vicious and I absolutely love it.

In my head I was playing with a signature move for the trio, though.
OHKO 1PP move, basically a guaranteed kill if not protected once per battle.

Yeah... no. Sorry. Not a fan of the idea of OHKO poison moves. Just kind of pointless. The thing with Poison is that it's supposed to kill you over time, either draining you gradually (normal Poisoning) or having effects which build up and get worse with time (Poison-rollout, Toxic-poisoning). An OHKO Poison move doesn't really make sense to me.

If we can avoid splitting previous evolution lines, that'd be awesome. The Mankey idea is cool, but I don't want things to be overcomplicated like that. With Skarmory, he's a standalone, so that's fine... but to cut Primape off feels wrong.

I think a Trap Door Spider is more workable than a Funnel Web.

It'd be Bug/Ground and it's an ambusher so it'd be camoflagued. Could do a spider that looks like it's made out of stick and leaves. Uses a lot of green/brown.

Pseudo - crocodile or stingray

Poison/Dragon legendary, pseudo, or fossil based on Megalania

Thorny devil, Fire/Ground with Rough Skin

Poison/Ground Taipan, with a simple name of Taipoison.
Ability: All Poison-type moves are twice as powerful. Any move with a chance to poison is now a chance to badly poison.

Poison/Bug Honey Bee, named Mellivenom
Ability: All normal moves are now Poison type moves.
- You could deliberately play on that. Have two near-identical bee Pokemon with veeeery subtle differences, but one is Poison-type and one isn't. Maybe have one be Dark-type? (To reference hiding or deception or something.) So you encounter one, assume it's Poison, and bring in your Psychic - nope, Dark. Or you see one, think it's Dark, bring up a Fairy - oops, Poison!

Kennelfeb (Trapdoor Spider Pokemon)
Bug/Ground
Ability: Backdoor- All moves with a + priority used against this Pokemon now have a priority of 0.

Eucalosion (from Eucalyptus Explosion), a Grass-Fire type based off of a walking eucalyptus tree. Chock full of highly flammable oil, it sets itself ablaze at will to defend itself against Bug-type predators. It would have three branch-like arms, each coated in leaves. It would also have tentacle-like roots which it could use to move about.
Then there'd be Pyoalub (Pyro Koala Cub), a Fire-Normal type that's basically a really small, adorable Koala with asbestos-like fur and who is capable of heating up its claws to flash-point. It'd evolve into Pyoalor (Pyro Koala Lord), a bigger, meaner Koala capable of igniting its claws and certain spots on its back at will. Imagine a dropbear crossed with a Cyndaquil.

Normal -> Water/Ghost (Holtergeist -> Harrowld)

Dark/Poison Pokemon based on the Box Jellyfish.

Rock/Fight Tasmanian Tiger Fossil Pokemon

Normal type regional derp is a Koala with a new ability that lowers Sp.Atk of opposing Pokemon switching in. (It grunts constantly and loudly so it distracts and annoys other Pokemon's concentration or something)

A fire/grass shrub intended to be in reference to bushfires, but gets misinterpretation and blacklisted by the media as being a biblical reference

Female psychic/poison peacock spider
Male ground/poison funnel weaving spider
Grass starter Drop Bear (grass/flying), learns lots of fighting moves
Fire starter Rabbit (fire/electric), learns lots of normal moves
Water starter Platypus (water/ground), learns lots of poison moves

Stingray Water/Poison alternate evolution for Mantyke.

New spider Pokémon everywhere, perhaps a branching evolution from some sort of sentient spider-egg-sack Pokémon.

Plenty of new Water-types, including a Jellyfish Poison-type.

Dingo as generic early-dog, sheep Pokémon and wild cats, too. Possums.

Nah. The answer's obvious - Banksia trees.
They have winged seeds which can fly and glide. Have the first form be a sentient flying seed, and the evolved forms can be mobile tree-like Pokemon (like Trevenant or Shiftry) equipped with seed-shurikens (with a signature move, Seed Shuriken, being like a grass-type Extremespeed).

Too bad Beauty is gone. Could have a Tadpole Pokemon that evolves in to a green tree frog or a cane toad based on Beauty. Could base it on friendliness instead.
- Amie affection? Cane toad just wanted to be loved. Green and gold bell frog could work, they're rare (well - vulnerable) and pretty. Maybe the tadpole could be Water, the frog Water/Grass or Water/something else, and the cane toad Water/Poison.

Not OP here, but a Grass/Flying Kookaburra/Kingfisher would be great imo.
Or a Jabiru/Brolga. I don't want it to be too similar to Gen /vp's/ hummingbird thing.

As lame as it was, my Australian starters were grass/fire, fire/water and water/grass. Based off of bushfire, drought and mangroves.
- That's clever as hell, but seems more fit for a non-legendary trio like the monkeys

Another fossil must be a megalodon, the king of water!

On a related note, are we going to have Eeveelutions? Gen 6 already broke the pattern by only introducing one, not two, so might as well.

- bugeon
- I vote bug, there's already going to be a whole lot of poison types.
- We could have both. There IS a precedence for introducing two. I also like the idea of a Flying-type based on parrots. Most colourful Eeveelution ever.
- Toxeon/Venomeon/Baneon is a definite.
Maybe also Ground for the deserts. Sandeon?

Was talking to my friend again. She suggested adding a ground/ghost type. The idea being, people who wander into the desert and never come back become these Ghost mons (kind of like how Yamask are literally reincarnated ghosts of humans), and maybe have the Pokedex entry on the biggest evolution of it mention that the evolution occuring in nature is super rare, and wild ones stay in the desert and call to people to wander in. Have it appear only on dead-end desert routes.

Fossilmons have no similiar pokemon living currently, while ancient evos are forms that stopped apppearing under normal circumstances, like mammoth mammoswine after the ice age ended, but their prevoius forms are still here and can evolve into them if there is a reason to

Based on Sturt's Desert Pea (my all-time favourite piece of aussie flora) and game birds that were introduced to Australia. Middle of a three stage evolution line, the first is almost spherical with tiny petals (Grass/Flying) and the third is more sleek and elegant, with the petals taking on traits of flames (Grass/Fire w/Levitate).

What if this game had a distortion-world-like area based off Aboriginal dreamtime mythology? Perhaps it could be part of the main plot where you find the box legendary, or could be a secret area in post game that just fucks with your mind and has some kind of obscure hidden legendary at the end.

How about this: A Rock/Fairy Pokémon that disguises itself as fossils (think like... a Carbink, but instead of having gemstones, it has indentations carved into it that look like fossils) and trolls people looking for fossils, and then when captured it occasionally might be holding an actual fossil.

I'm using a similar idea in my desert-themed fakedex and you guys might like it if you're gonna do a lot with fossils. And if you are? No reason to only have two of them.

Fraid not, I'm more of a "think up concepts and picture them in my head" guy. Can't really draw that well, and believe me, I've tried.

But the basic concept would be like that. Maybe it's back would be like a rocky shell with fossil indentations and it would hide in cave walls with its back facing out, while the front side is more of a rock fairy look or something.

I was thinking of a two staged bombadier beetle pokemon. Either bug/fire or bug/poison and its first stage is a normal bombadier beetle design that can spray explosives but when it evolves it gets wings and instead of spraying explosives it drops large drops of explosives like a stealth bomber

Just some ideas, I don't think they're redundant with previously given ideas.

Skrelp and Clauncher could easily get split evolutions... A leafy sea dragon instead of a Weedy sea dragon (dragon/water or grass/water) and a mantis shrimp (water/electric) respectively (possibly Kelphicod and Claudian respectively)

Regional bird of a normal/flying wren that evolved into a fairy/flying splendid fairy wren (Litlren, Faiwren, Splendwren)

Magpie of normal/flying that split evolved into a Wedge-tailed hawk or a Kookaburra depending on attack or special attack being higher (Jarpie, Butail, Kookraze)

Grass/Fairy pixie legend of a Kiwi found via event in the post-game New Zealand (Tiwee)

I personally would love to see a cave leading to a dream-like temple filled with stalagmites and stalactites that are hollow and are really didgeridoos

Well apparently the starters do not change the species on which they are based when they evolve, so yes.
Grass/Dark the first stage has a grassy fur which is reduced with evolution. Based on a hunter the last stage has large claws, is standing on two legs and her grassy mantle in patches is darker

I don't know, platypus doesn't sit with me. Especially if we're planning to do more poison pokemon in the long run. Heck, there aren't even any dolphin pokemon around, and it could make for a sweet narwhal or something in the end. Bipedal, of course, or something like Serperior.

Maybe we should get a poll running for this, at least? Since we're confining ourselves to Australian animals anything we don't use for a starter can be rehashed later, so it's not that big of a deal if something loses or not.

How about taking an echidna in a different direction than 'actually fairly similar to chestnaught'.
Have it evolve into a fairy/grass type knit warrior.
Think an elongated sandslash, quadruped. Thousands of long ass straw like threads protruding from its back.
On the underside it has it's 4 walking legs as well as 8 knitting arms/vines. It has needles as a moustache and it pulls these from it's face with said arms/vines to knit various enchanted things.
It's special move is a fairy type trump card.

Bit farfetch'd but hey a suggestion. I don't think going the knuckles route is a good idea.

What if Nullas was a budding civilization? You start off in one of the settlements, and learn about the history of the indigenous people that lived there. The evil team is harnessing the legendaries born from the "dreamtime" to rule over the place.
It'd still be set after the events of X/Y, so technology exists in a modern form. Also, the indigenous would just be a mix of races, so as not to draw too many similarities.

"Irwin" fits beautifully but having him as a legend within the region also works.
"Raine/Raina" would work for Terri, since her maiden name is Raines. I'd prefer her to the daughter, since the daughter is still rather young.

As for what they study, Pokemon seems to make the most sense. This Professor wouldn't just assign you to go out and fill your Pokedex, he/she will be out their as well and you'd run into them occasionally.

Hell, they can even be your friendly rival.

Like some other versions you would only be able to fly to some locations as they are so remote. Say if you wanted to get to Ayers Rock you'd have to take a plane. We don't really have decent trains.

I've discussed Aussie pokes with mates and even if you have new pokes you would have to include Kangaskhan somewhere or make a pre-evo for it.

A pika-clone could be a bilbyor numbat, maybe a better version of stunkisk?

I think if you were to make legendaries, they would definately be drought/flood related. With the 3rd being the rainbow snake from aboriginal dreamtimes. Speaking of which Dream Types? that would be a super awesome new type... what do you think?

SO many stories come from the dreamtime and would definately FIT the theme.

Moving on, we haven't had many battles/wars, but the ones we have been in were terrible.
so maybe a back story about a ned kelly type dude? with a steel type pokemon.

Tasmania HAS to be a ghost type island as its got so many abandoned prisons that you can take ghost tours in. So maybe a ghost in chains pokemon?

Queensland is very tropical so lots of leaf/water/beachy pokes here.
New South Wales has lots of hinterlands and the blue mountains, so ice, fire (as they suffer bushfires a lot), normal types.
Victoria is very metro and would be a great start for your adventure. Lots of big towns, cold as heck sometimes. Electric/poison types would thrive here as would seals/penguins/koalas
South Australia, all i can visualise here are kangaskhan lol its not that exciting to live here from what I've been told
Northern Territory Crocs (although crocs are dispersed everywhere) here as are lung fish and other tropical beasties Sharks
Western Australia has Sharks and lots of them. its a huge desert. nice beaches though. I could imagine relecanth here.

Snakes are mostly everywhere as are our spiders. But if you google the peacock spider (if thats not turned into a poke I'll cry) its stunning. Bug trainers would love us!

We have an abundance of birds and rain forests too.
Typical floral and fauna are ferns, gumtrees, wattles (they smell horrible BTW so maybe a Gloom clone fits here), many shrubs too.
Famous birds are our Kookaburra, Cassowary, Emu, Lyrebird (very pretty), other Kingfishers (related to the kookaburra, so theyd make for great pre-evos)

I'd personally feel that the Cassowary would be a fossilmon and the Ozraptor as its so awesome.
