Seriously, why. It would make a lot more logical sense (why would an egg only hatch if you were walking with it?), plus it would let you multitask and do actual productive, fun things while yoh wait for the eggs to hatch.

I disagree, I think its fine, if you need to go off and do things, take the eggs with you, hell a good volcarona could defend or beat any wild things you would encounter. I dont know what your issue is with this.

you can't take steps during battles. And there isn't anything else worth doing in the game. It's stupid that I have to pick between grinding the battling online / Maison (fun) or riding my bike back and forth (tedious but necessary due to the awful egg hatching mechanics)

I was expecting some kind of built-in pokewalker function at the very least. O-powers are nice, but they could have come up with something better. Although 10000 steps for free O-powers would be a pretty sweet deal too.
