Ah. Well, the chains aren't that bad, just keep in mind you can reset your radar if nothing shakes hard. Don't ever aim for patches that aren't shaking hard to avoid empty patches, avoid edges and never go to a patch within 3 squares of you

hey guys, currently doing the MM method for trying to obtain a shiny charmander. im using a talonflame to help me hatch my eggs faster by flying to Lumiose City to spin around in circles.

Are there any more efficient ways of hatching? This is driving me insane.

I just use talonflame and bike by the day care. I grab eggs from the day care man until I'm full, then use Hatch Power lvl 3. I don't bother with the powers unless I've got at least 4 eggs with me.

Safari hunting for a shiny charmeleon is faster and better if you don't particularly care about IVs too much. If you're gonna MM though, don't fly to lumiose and hatch there, as it's inefficient compared to riding on route 7, boxing as they hatch, collecting as they're laid.

You can encounter mons faster than you can hatch them. For example, it took me a solid 20 hours just to hatch my shiny ralts while MMing, but this week I've gotten a shiny a day from the safari alone. I'd personally only recommend MMing if you really want good IVs/nature/ability and a shiny at the same time, or if your shiny is unobtainable in the safari.

the current mother is my level 82 Spinarak. She started at level 1 in the daycare. This is in addition to the level 90 Korean Ariados I was originally using, who started at about level 43. It had terrible IVs though, so I found a male Japanese Skorupi to use MM with and pass down Toxic spikes, with 4 perfect IVs.

So a 43->90 parent from daycare foolowed by a 1-82 parent from daycare. Still no shinies.

Chained a shiny Flabebe earlier today, sadly was orange and not blue (or white runner up) like I wanted, but I'm very impressed with it's lucky IV's. Speed is a little unfortunate, but 4 high useful IVs for it is more than I was expecting! So I think I'll stick with her and not try for another one.

Hours and hours and hours. Took me a while to get used to how XY changed it, but once you get good at spotting the different types of grass, I feel like it's easier to choose the right patch.

Only chain on the heaviest type of shake. If you are at all unsure of what you saw, reset. Only go into a patch if it is the heaviest type of shaking, AND the furthest patch away (with this rule, unlike IVth gen, 3 away has always been safe for me, though I wait for 4 on very high chains). It is moderately easy to mistake a medium shake for heavy, so really try to learn the difference, since a farthest away medium can break your chain. And do not ever walk into edge patches/patches against walls or rocks because there's a chance no more patches will be generated, thus breaking your chain.

Yesterday I chained an Illumise and got it through a shiny patch.
The I continued for a good half an hour to see if any shiny patches will appear.
Well before I could find that out I fucked up and accidentaly walked into a barely shaking one and the chain ended.

Yeah, someone tested it by ignoring the shiny patch until they saw 5 or so, walked in, caught the shiny, reset for hours after and saw nothing. And I personally tried to find a shiny Klefki after the initial one and gave up.
