>>16033324Regional "large mammals" have started becoming staple from Gen III on with Mightyena, but there's not much of a pattern in the actual Pokemon beyond being big mammals and that we've been consistently getting them. Think guys like Luxray, Stoutland, Liepard, and Pyroar.
Depending on how VII goes, regional awesome bipedal canine might become a regular thing. We've got Lucario, Zoroark, and Mega Lucario so far, though it's too soon to tell if this'll be a staple yet - it might be one down the road though.
Legendary trio and a roaming legendary/legendaries have become typical in games that don't cop out on legends (III-V all had them), so there's another thing - and of course the obligatory cute event Pokemon and badass event Pokemon, and the mascot legendaries.
And all regions except Kalos introduce a fish line, and three of the five are fish that turn into something decidedly not a fish.
All I can think of off the top of my head. Obviously every game doesn't have everything, but a lot of these do get reused, so I think they're worth noting.
