Weather game's been nerfed, so not as good a prospect as last gen. Although this is according to Smogon statisticians so most probably bullshit.

They don't like Mega Houndoom because it isn't Dragon/Ground and called Garchomp.

Anyone know the best way to utilize a Mega Blastoise? I love the fucker, but I don't know the best way to put him to use. I'm sure there's a way to make him a Talonflame killer, considering he's got good Def and SpDef stats while also not having a 4x weakness to anything. Any suggestions?

Aura Sphere

The problem being any fairy type can take this set with ease. Especially Azumarill. Flash cannon would be a good option for the non-Azumarill faries, but that sill leaves you pretty vulnerable.

Megadoom is seriously brilliant in doubles with a Ninetales, but I can't imagine it doing well in singles, unless you have a fire move to switch in on (using Flash Fire). Under screens he'd be better at surviving hits, but you lose 1/8 oh your HP every turn, so his lifespan isn't great.

Charizard Y is more overlooked on /vp/ anyway. It has more base Sp. Atk than Mewtwo along with Drought to negate its weakness to water and its Fire Stab hits even harder. Yeah you have to worry about rocks but that's about it, it can take electric attacks alright as its Special Defense is decent and Sun lowers the accuracy of Thunder. With Tailwind or (Flame Charge surprisingly) it's pretty much set.

Honestly until Smogon is finished suspect testing the Mega's I would just stick with the top 3, there's literally no reason not to and your team will always be weaker not using one of them.

I had a lead of a Forretress with Sunny Day + Heat Rock. Use Sunny Day first turn, hope they switch into something with Fire moves. Forretress specifically isn't for Sneaky Pebbles nor Rapid Spin, but to bait a Fire attack for a switch-in Flash Fire. If my Houndoom under the sun can survive one turn of Mega-Evolving and Nasty Plotting, anything that can't outspeed dies, period.

This strategy started as a joke in a rather silly attempt to make my favorite Gen 2 Pokemon finally shine, but then I starting sweeping people. I can't believe people use Fire moves with a Houndoom clearly alive on the team.

Speaking of megas, I never hear anybody talk about Abomasnow. Did everyone forget him? Does nobody use him? I bred them for WiFi use first. When it was actually working, much to my surprise, I remade them on Showdown and incorporated them into my team there, just for fun. I expected it to not work, because I expected people on Showdown to know just a little more about competitive Pokemon, and the fact that Showdown also displays my Houndoom in clear sight throughout the entire battle.

Much to my dismay, it still worked.

Right now I have Substitute, Leech Seed, Blizzard, and Shadow Ball. Any other tips on making this better? I was worried with his low speed and major weaknesses I wouldn't get the substitute off but Trick Room might help with that.

Special attacks are very viable on him (100% acc Blizzards and all) but Sub Seed isn't really the best use of him; too slow, too many weaknesses.

If you're going to Trick Room with him you want to make sure he can do as much damage as possible while TR is up.

My one is Adamant (should have gone with a -Speed nature, but I forgot) with 252 Atk/252 HP/4 Def.

He's pretty bulky, and will shrug off many neutral and priority attacks with ease.

I tried a mixed set with 252 Atk/252SpAtt, but while the extra power of Blizzard vs Ice Punch was nice, the loss of HP was very noticeable.

Mainly using Ice Punch and Earthquake for attacks, but Abomasnow's SpAtk is high enough to do a decent number on someone if the time comes. Avalanche is just for coverage in case Trick Room fails/goes down.

in vgc doubles it's almost all you need. If you play your cards right after you end TR you'll have enough of a lead to wreck house despite going second

I think it's because a lot of players still haven't noticed Drizzle + Swift Swim is unbanned. Even a Kingdra with no speed investment outspeeds everything slower than Electrode in the rain.

I've gotten late game sweeps without even using speed boosts. Also, it renders smeargle leads completely useless. A fake out and bullet punch does it in and they never see it coming.
