Diantha was involved in one conversation that wasn't even directly to the player. One. Conversation.

Iris had that event where you chase Plasma into the sewers at least, and possibly something else I'm forgetting.

You know what bothers me about Diantha? In X and Y, when you become champion, everybody makes this huge deal about it and you basically become a celebrity. How the hell is it never mentioned that Diantha is champion when people are talking about her: she's literally the most powerful and one of the most influential people in the reigon, but people make a big deal out of the fact that she's an actress. That's like seeing J.K. Rowling and saying, "Hey, isn't she the woman who wrote "The Casual Vacancy?"

well considering the fact you become the champion at a younger age.. yeah. I think it was more along the lines of Alder deciding to retire and explore the world more,doesnt seem the type to be bound to one place. Iris is really underrated as a champ to me. Then again it may be my Blaze black 2 experience speaking where she swept most of my team sans a masquerain which miraculously turned it around

The reason for Alder stepping down and Iris taking their position are explicitly explained. Alder would not take back the position and Iris in the games is completely fine.

Diantha and the entire Kalos elite 4 were underwhelming because they were far, far, to easy to beat. I like to have a challenge at the end of the game, alright the pokemon games are not exactly hard but at least at the end of Black and white I had some close battles and I had to use potions and a revive once or twice, in Kalos I didn't even have to heal up my 'mons to face the champion. That's bad, worse though that it only took three of my pokemon to sweep the e4 and champ and no need to megaevolve. You can even 1 hit ko Dianthia's star pokemon's megaevolved form with an agislash of an ok-ish level and that is meant to be the greatest challenge the league has to offer. It just ends a fine game on a damp squib.

I never played B/W, only White 2, so I can only judge Iris on her appearance as champion in that game.
Just like the E4, she was rather underwhelming, especially after the highly climactic showdown with Ghetsis just a bit earlier, and a few other tough battles fought before. Her costume was retarded, and the background of her battle being some impressive starry sky was similarly justified. She was some kid in an overdesigned dress who had somehow become champ because all the good trainers of the region were apparently busy fighting evil or doing evil themselves.
By the time I was fighting her, I had also completely forgotten about the part in the sewers.

Diantha was also a bad champion, but I didn't feel as disappointed by her. Her team was easily defeated and didn't have much of a theme going, but considering how easy everything in Kalos is, this didn't come as a surprise. She had decent music and a nice background at least, and being established as a celebrity in the region, as well as her mature airs, lent a bit more credibility to her championship than that random Polynesian loli princess.

If they are sooo elite they should be able to train 6 pokemon. This is how push over chumps like Diantha actually manage to become champion in the first place, Lysandre was a greater challenge than she was.

There is no reason why even gym leaders shouldn't have 6 pokemon, even if GF want to make it easy for kids early in the game then they could boost the numbers up with some low level pokemon that will be pushovers, but if the players have 6 so should the trainers that are meant to be among the best in the region.

She doesn't really add to the story in any way. She has no point whatsoever in BW and she has no point whatsover in BW2, shes just there.

BW2 even throws away opportunities to properly present her as a champion, such as the attack on her hometown by Neo Team plasma.

Iris is literally just there...with no meaning of existance.

Diantha is literally just there as well but at least she has more presence appearing multiple times in the game and showing some semblance of personality.

They're both shit but, I think Iris is the biggest shitter.

I figured that BW2 made it a point to hide Iris's identity as the Champion, since we saw that Alder was out doing his own thing, and that would leave us guessing.

But with Diantha it was much less of a surprise since there were so few other important characters that weren't gym leaders or Team Flare members.

Neither. Iris was a pretty decent Dragon themed trainer. While her entire team wasn't Dragon type she did use different types unlike Flying type champion Lance. Diantha's problem was being underwhelming but she wasn't a terrible champion, it's just she could have been better.

Personally I think Lance is the worst champion. A Dragon typed champion at a time when Dragon types were the Dragonite line and Kingdra while there already was a Dragon typed Gym Leader resulted in him being a Flying type trainer with three Dragonites. His HGSS rematch team and B2W2 World Tournament teams are decent and make him a better trainer but in GSC he is the worst Champion in my opinion.

Lance might not have been the best champion, but they gave him a decent amount of character development in GS so you actually gave a crap about battling him, same with Blue in RBGY.

Steven and Cynthia both had a real part to play in their games and make cameos in games they are not part of the league in which adds more to their characters. Most importantly on top of character they have really good pokemons including ones that are either very tricky and time-consuming to obtain like spiritomb or that the player won't have encountered before like Metagross.

Iris and Alder have a few encounters with the player before the league battle and Iris will acompany you for a short while too, Alder has a powerful pokemon you won't have encountered before, much like Steven's Metagross which makes his battle a bit more memorable and fun too.

Dianthia feels shoehorned into xy because she just acknowledges you during a conversation with another person, you learn nothing about her other than the fact that she is an actress and it would appear she has friend-zoned Lysandre. Her pokemon are all a bit middle of the road, with nothing new or special there (perhaps GF were expecting megaevos to make more of an impact so everyone would go "Woah a Gardevoir mega evolution!" rather than "meh, time to switch out my fairy slaying ghost sword for a 1 hit ko.").

Except that's wrong because he has a level 45 Exeggcute on route 22 (the last battle pre-champion fight) with 4 moves (Leech Seed, Poison Powder, Solarbeam, Growth) then it goes and turns into an Exeggutor at level 61 with 3 moves (Hypnosis, Barrage, Stomp).

Bearing in mind Exeggcute needed to have been evolved before or at level 28 to even learn Stomp.

This is only something said by ignorant people who never used the Memory Link function. You're just as bad as people who only pay attention to important ingame events and don't read into the fluff of what NPCs talk about. Gen 5 was too busy trying to unload all that story on the player, so they had to put side stories elsewhere. It was already retarded how you stopped chasing Team Plasma to get your last gym badge for no reason. And even if they did incorporate Iris further into the main story, all that would've accomplished was ruining the surprise of her being the Champion.

Rock Slide/Rollout/Ancient Power sweeps Lance's under-leveled ass. No other Champion had a team that could be completely obliterated with ONE MOVE.

Iris. Blue/Gary and Lance both had very large parts in the players story. You were made to want to surpass your rival in first gen, so beating him at the end (no matter how crappy the team was) felt satisfying. Lance's help in defeating Team Rocket and his place as sort of an 'advisor' or teacher made the player care for him a bit more. The same could be said about Alder to some degree.

Steven and Cynthia didn't have quite the same story impact but they were very difficult champions to defeat. They had memorable Pokemon and gave the player a rough time.

Iris and Diantha were both pretty awful. My vote goes to Iris as the worst champion. At least Diantha had SOME presence outside her place as the final boss.

It had more substance than Gen I and II. (Gen II kind of started it with the focus on the actual legends)

I thought Gen VI's story has been decent. I mean, yea the Team Flare encounters felt a bit rushed at times, but overall it had a nice flow to it.

I wasn't a huge fan of BW's story, but I enjoyed BW2's quite a bit more. I think it was due to N's heel-face turn. The realization of his ways, made him more likeable.

Hell, Gen IV's story was pretty enjoyable as well. I guess Gen I's story is the weakest one, and that's mainly due to the fact that it didn't really have much of a story to begin with. "Here's a Pokedex, go out and catch them all!" was pretty much the gist of it.

The idealistic views of the two teams seemed to mirror Galactic's and Plasma's. They just wanted to make a better world. I really don't see much of a difference in the groups. I guess you could argue that Plasma had the most difference, due to Ghetsis' manipulative ways, and him secretly trying to control the world.

Basically you have the story of two rival organizations, at odds with each other. They're quarreling over their ideals, thinking it superior to the opposite view of their opponents.

They escalate their plans, intending to awaken a god to show how their ideal is better.

Halfway through one of the two realizes how they both may be wrong and begins to turn back on it, but too late.

Motivations were dumb, doesn't mean the skeleton of the story wasn't good. If you had changed their reasoning for wanting to flood/drought the earth, or changed what they wanted to do, it would have worked.

Yeah, that's the deal.
The true goal of team plasma was to hoard all pokémon so they could control Unova, only the lowest grunts weren't aware of this.
Cyrus just outright wanted to recreate the world to fit his views, which would be better for him but worse for everyone else.
So they were really just being selfish rather than trying to make the world better unlike Lysandre.

Fuck this, man. I'm not going to keep sitting here arguing on the internet, over a story in a Pokemon game. They're all pretty similar when you think about the formula's from an objective standpoint.

Cyrus had some development in the team only being a ploy to get what he wanted as he selfishly abandoned them all to get into and try to take command of the reverse world. They were his stepping stone and he had some actual development as a character while all the admins realized their mistakes after he pulled that shit.

Plasma was fucking right about their shit and a bunch of people in Unova agreed with N's ideals. Ghetsis plotting and planning behind it all while using the morals of the people as something to fight for and get people on his side showed conflicting opinions and more to the standard "evil guys labeled as evil" almost every media does. It's personally why I don't like BW2, where Ghetsis just decides to go full evil shooting giant laser beams and shit, freezing the dragon gym and everything. It threw away everything he built up in BW1. He was a political villain and if he didn't pull the "let me tell you all about my plan and abandon my life's work raising N" thing at the very end of BW1, he could've had the people give him power by BW2.

Gen 3 just sort of paled in comparison. The bad guys are clearly labeled as bad throughout and don't learn anything except how stupid they were about their own goals. They tried to steal some shit like common thugs four or five times, and when they were successful all they could say is "oh god, I don't understand, how could drowning the earth be a bad thing" before leaving you to deal with it. It was villain of the week nonsense. At least Gen 2 was building more off Gen 1's lack of story, and Gen 1 was purely about you adventuring. Gen 3 just seemed sort of shoehorned trying to fit together a reason for you to keep going through Pokemon worlds.

gen 3 and 6 are pretty much the only ones that have that as a core premise.

Gen 4 doesn't hide that it's for his own reason, and gen 5 is a twist on it with it all being a ruse.

Cyrus is pretty secretive about wanting everyone, including all of plasma dead so he can autism in his own world. Considering the fact that they followed him up until then. They didn't even know what their goals exactly were supposed to be in D/P. N still believes in Pokemon being free by the end of Gen 5.0 and people are still following that philosophy by Gen 5.5

Flooding the earth isn't good for mankind either. The key is that it was the motivation of the person.

Maxie/Archie were in it for helpin the people and the pokemon
Cyrus was in it for himself
N was in it for the pokemon (but he isn't the leader and what he wanted doesn't matter in the scheme of the villain team), Ghetsis for himself
Lysandre for helping out the people.

Because bad plans can come from good intentions.

Non-Neo plasma showed that N still had a force in it, people listened to N's words. Even if Ghetsis was just using it as a ploy, nobody but you even found that out about it until Ghetsis started going around calling himself neo-plasma and shooting kyurem at people.

Lysandre was all in it for himself and plasma. He was barely a better Cyrus that had a better thought out plan and wanted to keep his team alive in the process of killing everyone else. I'm still 90% sure genocide doesn't exactly help humanity most of the time.

Maxie wanted to expand land to increase real estate for people as well as giving pokemon places to live. Archie wanted to fuck people over because water DA BED.

No, he legit believed that the only way to make the world better would be reducing the world's population to avoid misery and wars because the larger the population is the harder it is to keep everyone happy.
Plus they make multiple references in-game that Lysandre was actually a good person who tried to make the world better but ended up losing hope.
