/vp/, what do you think about the Mystery Dungeon games? I mean the 2D ones, since I've not played the 3DS installment. How was Gates to Infinity, by the way? Does it live up to the previous games?

Yeah, I never did like how if your partner fainted, you had to leave, or that you lost everything upon fainting, but there WERE ways to fiddle with your partner's AI to make them less stupid. Overall, I'd say it was bearable.

Generally speaking, those who enjoyed the first two hate Gates. Most people who like Gates are either kids, or new to the Mystery Dungeon scene.

Gates is pretty damn bad.

The 2D ones are downright incredible but Gates...they tried way too hard with the 3D and forgot to make a good game.

I wonder if there is ever going to be yet another PMD in the foreseeable future.

Although main series have everything going for them, I sort of feel that pre-Gates-to-Infinity PMDs have a better story than anything post gen-3.

That was the impression I got from the demo. Also, I just found out they composers for the games were two completely different people. Apparently, we have Arata Iiyoshi to thank for the incredible scores for BRT and EoD&T, and he/she is not mentioned in the GtI credits. I guess I definitely won't be buying it.

Gates... wasn't AWFUL, but it certainly missed a lot of the charm the earlier two entries had.

I still managed to sink a good 30ish hours into Gates.

Well, GF has shown to be somewhat capable of tapping into long-lost potential, so a new beginning would be still something to look up to with some hope.

I simply want again to see Porkymans being perfectly capable of fucking over their world by themselves, rather than being little more than oblivious cattle in the shadow of humans doing all the life&universe-wrecking effort.

I thought that Gates was better than the other two, and the games overall were never any better than mediocre. Recruited pokemon are actually worth using and don't take hours upon hours to grind to get them up to standard. The story's also the only one that's actually good of the three

Do these games have good stories? I do think the notion of playing as a pokemon makes for far better story material, as fan-ficcy as it sounds. The bar's really low for stories in pokemon, so are they just good by pokemon standards of flat out good.

Well, Mystery Dungeons are perfectly fine with a story involving a disaster that actually takes place, rather than being narrowly averted, so I'd go out on a limb and say that they are better story-wise than pretty much half of main series.
