He was an idiot for trying spore against a gengar in the first place and honestly you're lucky he wasn't that bright because your gengar would have easily been pursuit trapped for daring to lead with it.
Why were you even running taunt on it in the first place? The opponent is stuck while you aren't anyway so it doesn't matter if they attack or not since you could have just hid behind a substitue to avoid status when you outspeed them.
It's not like you were much better than that smeargle player from what I can tell thanks to this.

At which point they would have had to try and get past a substitute on M-gengar who has a decent chance of using disable on their only coverage move capable of hurting it. Substitute is the superior move in nearly all situations there. Taunt on a M-gengar is a weak option MMMkay. He lost the chance to disable the incoming mon, to weaken it before switching in to something strong against the predicted coverage move and he managed to do so on turn one. I'm almost impressed with how bad that play was by turn 1.

I typically lead with Galvantula@Sash w/ Sticky Web, but always start with M-Gengar if I see a Smeargle, Klefki, Ninjask or any other BP just to use Taunt+ShadowTag to prevent them from setting up; then switch to my Galvy.
It isn't my M-Gengar's only purpose (It's running ShadowBall, SludgeBomb, and FocusBlast for type coverage) but it doesn't hurt to have it as an option. And when it's happened SO MANY FUCKING TIMES I don't see any reason to switch it for another attack. So fuck yourself faggot

Well then I'm fucked. Honestly in the 20 or so Smeargles I've seen, I haven't ran into someone smart enough to plan for such a scenario. I'm not saying I never will, I just haven't yet.

Opponent should have immediately switched to something that stops Gengar since either way a smearlge would have been fucked. You were literally just lucky your opponents were too stupid to switch out because shadow tag doesn't activate until the turn AFTER you megavolve.

As someone who's only used M-Gengar for less than a day, I wasn't aware. And did you not read the part where I said I haven't went against anyone smart enough to switch before I Taunt them? So I haven't be in a situation where I needed to prevent them from switching Turn 1 because I always lead with Galvantula (except for going against pure set-up pokes that they're guaranteed to lead with).

why is sleep still allowed? if you get spored that means you are fighting with 1 less pokemon already + deal with enemy free set up at switch turn.
