The dex lets you check what forms of pokemon you have encountered, including shinies. Go into your dex and check what shinies you have seen, but didn't catch.

The time when in my White2 Challenge Mode Nuzlocke when I was in the sewers with my rival, and his Pignite Arm Thrust-ed a Shiny Rattata into oblivion because my Elekid couldn't kill his Pignite fast enough.

It was a sad time. I restarted after that because I just got de-motivated. (I did have a shiny clause/was going to trade it to my Black 2.)

The first shiny I encounted was a Goldeen in my LeafGreen in Trainer Tower. The only other one I've found was a Psyduck in Diamond that I successfully caught.

That was a Seaking, I believe, and everyone saw it. The Trainer Tower teams were all predefined, and some of them were shiny.
However, facilities with the Battle ________ name randomize enemy teams, and will sometimes produce Shiny pokemon. I remember scanning my foe's team in the Battle Castle and discovering a golden Lickitung...
