I don't get Aegislash.

Doesn't he start out on Defense mode? So why invest EVs in Attack? The stats will shift when I attack and all those EVs I invested in Attack would go to the still shitty Defense. Does it not work that way?

Only the base stats shift, IVs and EVs stay on whatever you have them on.
