For its time, was Crystal's Battle Tower that hard?

Please note that this refers to the international release of Crystal, as the Japanese Crystal's Battle Tower is a bit different.

If it was, it would largely because we were all younger and there was nowhere near as much competitive Pokémon info as there is now.

Sure, you wouldn't have to worry about EVs, IVs and Nature, but you also would have to figure out what makes a good moveset and a good team by yourself.

Not moves, but types.
Fire was special, so a Scizor with Fire Blast would still be using a special attack.

Before Gen 4, some types worked off of special attack, and some off of physical attack. Fire was special, so it would calculate the damage using Scizor's shitty special attack, just like it would today. It would NOT be based on his attack stat whatsoever.

Are you retarded? The types were physical or special, thus move damage was calculated off the user's Attack/Special Attack stat and the opponent's Defense/Special Defense stat.

That's exactly what was said. Fire is a Special type. Using a Fire attack means that damage is calculated with the user's Special Attack and the target's Special Defense.
