What if Nintendo decides to sue online simulators? A lot of people are playing Pokémon there and don't buy the games. The face of smogon if that happens, I can't imagine it.

I'm genuinely curious how the fuck Smogon managed to monetize Showdown.

Also these people will never get sued because Nintendo has the common sense not to piss off a huge and dedicated chunk of their fanbase.

I'd be torn.

On one hand, I would love to see Smogon get taken down a peg. I'm all for banning moves/items/pokemon if they're truly broken but the way they do it with only a small hierarchy of elites deciding after only one month, then promptly banning all threads on the matter, just screams of "We don't want our metagame changed" pussyshit.

On the other hand, it would be the death of competitive Pokemon. Normal online play is filled with sleep and evasion abusers.

Smogon isn't a simulator you stupid fuck. They make no claims of them owning Pokemon and they merely use the Simulator service other people offer. It's a forum for competitive Pokemon discussion. Why the fuck would they sue them?

You do realize that even if simulators were shut down, those that actually do play on cartridges would just carry on using smogon rules there, right? Just as they always have even with them around? Not saying it wouldn't decrease the playerbase a lot, because it would, but to say the sudden lack of simulators would mean everyone starts playing VGC is unrealistic.

Not only that but the simulators are pretty illegal considering they're basically bootleg versions of a portion of the game using the exact same equations whenever possible.
