FAQS:
-Is this going to be a game/rom hack/computer game?
This is the current intention. However, we are at a very early stage in development right now, so a fully-functional game is quite a ways off. Current priorities are the new Pokemon (especially Legendaries) and story.
-Isn't this just Gen /vp/ 2.0?
Well, it is a fan game made by people on /vp/ featuring a suite of newly-designed Pokemon. This is where the similarities end, however. They are doing their own thing, and we are doing our own thing.
-KANGAROO STARTER?!/1?1

OK, in all seriousness though, we really need a theme for our game, like the dreaming. This theme will carry over into our designs. Our professor's object of study, and most importantly, our plot.
When I say dreams I mean we could possibly play with "what is reality, what are the limits of reality, what can happen when those limits are removed"
If I were to make the game, me personally, I would probably try something like the Reverse World, only with it bleeding into reality, causing new reactions and changes to the surrounding life. Perhaps rather than having a traditional evil team, I would have 'Dreampeople' who are lost in reality. causing general trouble.
>>16170792 In the end the anomalies probably wont be fixed, and so the people would have to learn to coexist with the 'Dreampeople'
thats how i would do it personally. So the theme would probably want to be...coexistance in this example.
of course, this can all just be bullshit and we can choose something totally different. Throw out suggestions, we can try and build off them and see what sticks you know?

>>16177601 I agree we should talk about theme before we go any further with legendaries and villains.
I like your general direction, but not so much the dreampeople idea. Make it sound more concrete, please.
A legendary representing dreams and the realm of possibilities, and another representing the realm of actuality would work nicely, though. Plus a third legendary based on the realisation/following of ideals. The detached, the pragamtic, the devoted?

>>16177601 Dreamtime definitely seems like the most appropriate thing to go for.
The professor can study pokemon affected by the dreamtime, the game can revolve around people abusing it somehow.
"Dreamtime" can be used to describe the unknown force of nature? And it gets upset and starts to bleed out and go rogue when the villain team/s mess around.

New York - 1590-5145-3499 {3190} !LPt6reZR0E Sat 23 Nov 2013 03:41:03 No. 16177965 Report We had a pretty solid trio in mind, the Venom Trio. Seems to be have been forgotten about. The idea behind them was "You don't find them, they find you." It was a series of three spiders. One fast and instantly deadly, one slow and painfully deadly, and one other. We haven't gotten a lot of opinion on my evil team/story idea, a few people posted in support of it though: The evil team are a group of extremist naturalists (mix between Plasma and Galactic) that want to "save the planet" by eliminating human interference with nature. Instead of killing everyone like Team Flare, they instead follow the belief that the Rainbow Serpent can turn humans into Pokemon, and vie to awaken it. If all humans become Pokemon, human interference with nature comes to a complete halt. The leader is a former scientist who was a lead researcher in preventing pollution and environmental destruction, but snapped when he realized his research was getting nowhere and that humans couldn't be stopped. The best Pokemon we had suggested that fits in with all of this is the 6pack Fish and Pollution-Shark.

To continue on the venomous trio idea, because it's great, let's brainstorm the animals. Why have three spiders when you guys have all the most venomous and terrifying shit? Adapt to them, don't expect them to adapt to you. You guys aren't even close to any milestone. You aren't even close to being finished the first 100th of the first milestone. Your attitude and thought process is hilarious.
And if your plot is too similar to theirs, you're going to get called out on a ripoff anyway. Make something new. If your plot is too similar to theirs, you are bringing absolutely nothing to the table. All you are claiming is that "bu-but we totally came up with it on our own too!!" Do you think anyone is going to give one single shit? No. No one is going to care about your 'original idea' if the other /vp/ makes a game already has it and you could have taken two clicks and a week to find out what they are going to be doing.

I agree that a degree of creativity is needed to be even remotely marketable to people that aren't us. Gen /vp/ needs to learn that too, but we're at the stage where it has to be ingrained in our heads.
We should put arguments on a standstill and get to completing stuff, though. We've got the makings of a fantastic team.

the body colour of these slugs vary from a green, cream, orange, yellow or red/pink which could mean different terrain=different colour.
The reason for the bright colouring on this animal is presumably employed as a warning to predators (the Blue-tongue lizard and other mollusc eating animals) that it is unpleasant to taste or poisonous.

The Southern Leaf-tailed Gecko feeds at night and shelters during the day in crevices or under rocks. When the Southern Leaf-tailed Gecko is threatened or attacked, it discards its tail so it can escape to safety. It will re-grow another tail and the missing tail will decompose.

As for related to Australia, again, it depends on what animal it's related to. Star only needs to make a few minor tweaks to make it fit really any lizard he wants (he originally designed it to be a chameleon but on the forums spoke of moving some things around and adjusting it to make it fit the theme better.)

The theme is 'moving forward'.
There will be Pokémon based on native animals that tend more towards JGB/JGS when they evolve, and introduced species that undergo wilder changes. Kind of like X vs. Y megas.
The professor is studying the region itself, and how the ecosystem has been changing recently. The leader of the evil team has the government in his/her pocket and has been undermining the professor's research by cutting off her funding, claiming that climate change is a lie.
This also provides a great excuse for you to fill the Dex for her; she can't afford an assistant anymore.
The region has a dark history of Pokémon cruelty that they have only recently begun to acknowledge.
The lesson we learn is that we shouldn't deny what happened in the past, but we should also accept reality and move forward, making ourselves better people as we look to the future, instead of being stuck in the Dreamtime.

Question: So far, what Pokemon (apart from Star's pseudo dragon-lizard line), would you say are confirmed for being in the PokeAus Pokedex?

A number of Pokemon in the Pokemon Design folder are directly lifted from Gen/vp/. They're starting to accuse us of stealing. Could you please either delete those mons, or move those mons from Pokemon Design to Inspiration, since those monsters are being used not as actual ideas or suggestions, but rather as references for concepts? That would be great.
A rough list of the mons which have raised ire can be found here, in this archived thread:

>>16187467 How so? Seems simple enough to me, love it id you actually told me how.
>>16187542 Thanks for the comment! What bit do you deem unnecessary? If it's the dream catchers, they're there to tie in with its concept:
> It's a wondering ghost that devours the dreams of unsuspecting humans and Pokemon. Like a Thylacine it has a large/strong jaw. Around its two outer jaws (the ones near its ears), there are false dream catchers, lulling it's passerbyers into a false sense of security while they sleep ( the big sticking point being, dream catchers are from the Native American culture, not Aboriginal thus having no effect ). It uses its large hand like tail to draw out the victim's dreams, putting nightmares in the dream's place. They reside in deserts and in the edges of forests, using the holes/homes of their prey to rest in. Their ears are closed so they can concentrate on using their strong sense of smell - communication between this Pokemon's species are done with scent markings Foxy !QqL8nX9URE

>>16187557 God, thank you. I really feel like that kind of attitude is going to put a lot of roadblocks ahead of development.
One of the first things I said when we started this project was that we need to put our foot down when it comes to issues like these.
There's something we should aim to achieve, and it's to make a pokemon game.
Not a fakemon game, not a copy of generation /vp/. We're making the same mistakes and it isn't alright.
>>16187645 People are impersonating him for a reason, and it was very easy to do so since his posts never held anything of value until his sprite attempts.
You can't impersonate a drawfag when they post art every time they want themselves to be known. You can't impersonate a musicfag when they link new scores each post.
If someone copies your tripfag, and people mistake the impersonator for you, then you need to think about what you're really contributing.
Anonymous
>>16187651 It's no problem. If I were to put my finger on it, the markings on the arms aren't needed, and the chest marking might be too detailed.
The dream catchers are fine, but they need to look more stylized. Also, try using Game Freak's palette when you colour. Ink drop on sugimori art, take a look at how vibrant everything usually is.

If someone copies your tripfag, and people mistake the impersonator for you, then you need to think about what you're really contributing. A valid point. Perhaps I myself should drop my name when critiquing designs, and put it back on when doing my map design work (either asking for input, or showing what I've done). Maybe that would be for the best.

>>16187645 Alright, but the thing is; the trip and username are still unneeded right now.
>>16186411 You'll still have to survey that. Don't call anything 100% at this stage of the development and don't get too attached to anything, which is a bad pattern I'm seeing in you.
>>16187696 A) He needs to know the difference between design and style
B) His unwillingness to take critique to a design he loves is ridiculous, and his counterarguments aren't even counterarguments. He doesn't even have any counterarguments; it's just "no it's not". Any half-decent artist should be able to deal with any sort of critique; he doesn't even ask or consider what he's saying. We don't care about what he thinks, it's now the entire community you are catering to.

>>16187781 It might be a good idea in the long run. There's a big issue that might also come about this decision - the vocal minority problem that arises when a seemingly large amount of people have support over one decision, when in reality the number is far smaller.
But, and this is an educated opinion - polls provide a way for people to put their money where their mouth is.
Not several thousand like gen /vp/, god no. But when the time comes, we need very concise polls to decide what will be considered set in stone and what will not.
The stone can be removed, and replaced further down the line, but for the sake of completion the line must be drawn at some stage.
Thankfully we're just idea collecting. Seeing which ones stick, which ones don't. The only problem is that people who realise their opinions have been ignored (tooth fairy guy, I'm lookin' at you) might not always accept this outcome, and will continue to poke at the public until they get at least a portion of the reaction they wanted.
>>16187800 I'm not looking for bad blood, I agree with you 100%. Criticism in most forms is needed and expected here, this isn't a hugbox.

>>16187845 I think the general idea was to hold off on polls and work through thread consensus where possible. However, they may become necessary soon. We're getting a fair amount of designs now, and we only have so many niches. We need to have a framework for deciding what will fill which niche.
Foxy !QqL8nX9URE

>>16187949 The spreadsheet being passed around is a good way of defining what needs to be done to consider a region fairly complete, but there's a major flaw in which the person in charge of the spreadsheet only writes the ideas they personally like.
Polling is best for the least amount of bias, and the person keeping track of all the ideas disappeared day 3.
Anonymous
>>16187962 Oh! By stylized I mean design the dream catchers to look LESS complex, and more cartoonish.
Pokemon like Klefki can get away with more detail on their items because of their size, but the bigger a pokemon is the less attention it needs drawn to very concise parts of the design.
That rough draft looks pretty good.

>>16187985 You have a point.
Perhaps, once we've got an understanding of the niches as well as appropriate shortlists for each niche, we should create a multi-question poll that goes like this:
>Question 1: We have lots of fossilmon suggestions. Which ones do you like best? >a) Anklyosaur opal thing >b) Rock-jaw thylacine >c) Ancient rabbit-sloth >d) etc. >Question 2: We have several suggestions for the early-route birdmon niche. Which do you like best? >a) The punk-galah >b) Magpie >c) Something lorikeet-based And such on and so forth. Thoughts?

>>16188084 That's a very good idea, I propose these as our questions;
- Region Bird
- The need for a second region bird (suggestions taken from the first question)
- Region Rodent
- Region Bug
- Secondary Region Bug (Similar to bird question)
- Plant Line
- Pikachu Clone
- Audino Clone
- Evolution Stone Pokemon
- Split Evolution Pokemon
- Fossil
- Third Fossil (Second Fossil is a shoe-in and decided by previous question's results)
- Route-Blocking Pokemon (Whether one is necessary and if so what you'd like to see)
- Geodude Cave Clone
- Zubat Cave Clone
- Tentacool Sea Clone
- Machop Clone (Whether one is necessary and if so what you'd like to see)
- Pseudo
- Second Pseudo (Whether one is necessary etc)
- Amount of legendaries
The actual legendaries and the starters need to be separate polls, since I feel they carry more importance and require more group discussion.
We should decide when to open submissions and when to close them for all of these questions. It'd give people time to drawfag, describe, etc. No one is limited to the amount of suggestions they can submit, as long as some thought is put into them.
