It varies. You're running some fraction of the original 1/4096 odds, no one knows what fraction until they release the actual stats on that though. Some people find 5 in one day, some people find none in a week.
For example, I've caught 12 full boxes of pokemon from safari looking for the right IVs and never seen a shiny

Oh yea, and why do people breed boxes of shit instead of just soft resetting... yea, it's nice having those delicious pokemiles, but isn't it easier to just breed like 3 boxes, and then if it hasn't happened go to soft resetting after every 5?

SRing is a hassle for me to be honest. I get that it saves releasing eggs, but when you're popping eggs at the 90% chance rate, it's just easier to collect a few boxes, hit the infinite loop and release your party when you go to pick up the next batch.

I found that if I reset the radar when I was standing on the very edge, it would also break my chain.

Also, are you certain that you're going to the strongest wiggling patch, and that it's always 4 matrix squares away? Some people have said that 3 squares away is safe, but they tend to break the chain for me.

Edges have always been unreliable for chains, most guides point out not to go near them. Same with the 4 squares

Ah, I guess I know my problem now. I heard elsewhere that the distance doesn't matter any more.

I did walk into the nearest, loudest grass before though, maybe it has to do with the number of chains.

I just got this after 18 or so boxes. She has 31 ivs in Hp, Sp. Attack, Sp. Defense and Speed. She has Synchronize, which is kinda a bummer, but there's always the ability capsule. Thank god for that.

Because when you mega evolve, synchronize is useless. Trace still goes ahead and works since it activates right away the second you send out gardevoir. It's pretty neat when you trace an intimidate or something and then mega evolve.

Hey, chin up. You'll get there eventually. Remember, statistics like this tend to spread out in a bell curve. So you'll get instances of people not getting what they're looking for well beyond the average point and it balances out the people like myself who got a shiny Eevee in their first box.

Who supposedly made the Twitter post, Gamefreak (not doubting you, just legitimately wondering)?

The people over at Project Pokemon who have been analyzing the .pkz files have also said that there are now 16 values that make a pokemon shiny, as opposed to 8 from previous generations, also suggesting that the rate has doubled to 1/4096 (not to mention that there are only 4096 SV values through instacheck as well), but I never knew there was an official confirmation.

There's great reliable tutorials on plat chaining on youtube.

My advice: go for same type of bush, only go for shakes that are 4 away. Don't go for edge shakes or shakes against trees.

This. It's the same with Wondertrade. I throw decent pokemon into Wondertrade and the Japanese love throwing rare pokemon, 4 IV pokemon or rare 4 IV pokemon at me. I'll happily wondertrade with Japanese any day. But Americans are the worst. As soon as I see a location like New York, California or Massachusetts, I know I'm getting something terrible.
