TOTT: Are pull rates from Legendary Treasures as good as people are saying? I got a FA Emolga from the single pack I got but I've heard of some ridiculous pulls from the set. It's making me want to get a box to restart my collection with.

Not judging, but I really can't understand why people spend so much money on cards when fully developed and competitively equal games are available for 40 bucks with no financial barrier to entry.

Not OP but personally I stopped playing when all the older cards became obsolete once the newer ones had tons of HP and ridiculous damage output for 2-3 energy, but I like to collect the cards of my favorite Pokemon for collection's sake.

Yes, they are fucking ridiculous. At my local prerelease everyone pulled 3+ Full Arts or EXs. The only guy who didn't pull an EX got a gold Reshiram, so that makes up for it, I guess.

Any Eurofags planning on going to Hamburg next week?

Megas seem kind of mediocre so far. Ending your turn for a single attack that isn't really all that great, unless I'm missing something, doesn't seem worth it. Maybe the future sets will make them more useful. I'm guessing, if they stick to 2 Megas a set the next two sets will involve both Charizard and Mewtwo Megas. So it'll probably be awhile before I see ones I'm interested in, like Mawile.

I love the TCG, I love how it's played, I seriously do. But when I look the current metagame, all I can do is cringe. Basically every deck is "get expensive cards or prepare to lose", aka "pay to win".

What can I do to remedy this situation, given cards here are more expensive than over there?

Having gotten out of MTG, I can say that Pokemon is much less expensive. To create a top-tier meta deck it'll run me $100 give or take. In MTG, it typically costed me $500-600.

I dont know much about the tcg but I bought the sylveon collection for collection's sake, and it came with a couple of Legedary Treasures boosters. Each booster gave me 3 holos. I was pretty surprised. The last time I bought tcg cards was back in the day with the base/jungle/fossil, and there was only a 1 in 3 chance of getting a holo in your pack. how things have changed...

Legendary Treasures is a great place to start, since a lot of great cards have been reprinted, meaning they will be cheaper. On top of that, you can just look out for tins/promos, which should also lower the cost of your deck. A great (cheap) deck right now is Tool Drop.

At league/with friends you can just always dick around with proxies/cheap decks, but you're right. At tournaments good cards/decks can be pretty pricey. You might be able to borrow important cards from friends, though.

Legendary Treasures is special. It contains a certain Japanese set (Radiant Collection) which was primarily marketed towards girls/women. Hence a lot of shiny/cutesy cards.
Also, it's all reprints, so the pull rate of holos is much higher than normal sets

At my FLS they have a "no proxies, no play" policy, plus leagues around here are pretty much shit anyways (no one even bothers to make one). And one of my friends who COULD afford cards and build decks also quit because of Pokemon EX. Seriously, the fact they were introduced overcentralized the meta so damn much it became unplayable if you don't have an EX. It's Pokemon SP all over again, and I hated that meta with a passion.

can cost a bit but they'll last you a good while since like Sage, they go in all fields. (yes old joke, sue me)

Make sure to trade away more expensive things like EXes once you're done with them - no point having those Lugia EX knocking around when you're wanting to play TDK instead. You can always re-trade for them back.

Meh, I'm shit doing business anyways. I cannot measure card values properly during a trade and since always I get the short end of the stick with ease.

Currently I have a Gothilock/Gardevoir deck I used last rotation. It was obviously a "for fun" deck but I couldn't afford better anyways. I still have some Eelektriks and such but hey, it's pretty much worthless right now.

Here's one tip when trading, always try to get that little bit extra. Say, for example...

You will also need Dusknoir (Boundaries Crossed) and Mew EX to be fully efficient, otherwise you are simply having WAY too many turns where they can turn around and kill something, which will usually end up being one of your Gothitelles.

Try to copy the 'American Gothic' Worlds deck, cheapening it up wherever possible. Especially as I doubt you have access to Tropical Beach.

Dusknoir should be merely 1 Duskull, 1 Dusknoir with Rare Candy. And of course, carry Super Rod to instantly regen Dusk if it dies, otherwise the deck starts to go a bit limp. It's all good stunlocking one thing to death, but when they get a free attack with what will likely be a fully powered EX for lethal on your Gothitelle...that's not as good.

Emboar is indeed for Delphox, it's going to be a million times more viable than ReshiBoar ever was, and when M-Charizard EX shows up with the inevitable Fire Spin for 200+, Emboar will only increase in demand.

Correct again. It also wants Keldeo EX so it can be using King's Shield every turn. Expect it to use Virizion EX to stop LaserBank shenanigans. The only possible threats are Shred effects and repeated Escape Ropes into strong non-EX attackers.

Keldeo EX's other use will be for abusing the

It's strong, but it's not going to score as many OHKOs as you'd like it to unless you're willing to stick literally seven Fires on it so it one-shots most Pokemon-EX. I can see it using LaserBank for damage support most likely. And lots of Energy Retrieval/Super Energy Retrieval. and PLF Exeggcute

Well, right now the main water deck is Blastoise/Keldeo/Black Kyurem EX, and it already chews through Water energy like no one's business. The thing is, against Megas, Black Ballista comes 30 short of the OHKO and Greninja may find a use there...since realistically it only requires two slots (Froakie and Greninja) and a maximum of three extra discarded Water energy per match. However, I don't see it being used in any other deck.

Yes. Dragons Exalted Garchomp and Rayquaza EX (also known as RayEels which uses Rayquaza and Dynamotor Eelektrik) are both viable and fast decks.

Yes, fairy is officially a type, and has it's own basic energy.
