I'm pretty sure tipping just increases your style, any shiny you find after it you're just going to think was because of the tipping due to confirmation bias. I've found like half a dozen other shinies there after the 7 I mentioned earlier, and I don't go out of my way to tip.

Like >>16208839 said, that's more than likely confirmation bias. Shiny rates have already been halved, and FS more than likely has a higher rate even further. It's very unlikely that they'd do something like tipping increasing odds of finding shinies solely in FS without at the very least having an NPC that hints towards it like all the other hidden features in game.

Trying to get a non-shiny to use while breeding? I say keep going for a 31/x/31/31/31/31. If you already have one parent with the nature you want you could also swap out the everstone on the one you're breeding now with a power item to ensure one of the stats is passed down in the 5 (power item + destiny knot overlap, the power IV is sure to be passed down and destiny knot will pick 4 more)

Hey, just popping in to ask what you other hunters think of insta-check. I think it is absolutely disgusting that people use it, and that people made it in the first place. Pokemon is the only game I can think of with something as rare as shinies, and I'd like to keep them a rarity. With instacheck you can get them without trying. I hate that.

I could not give less of a fuck. It's not like pokegen where they just create pokemon out of thin air. These pokemon still need to be bred properly. It would be like people complaining about MM being used to obtain shinies more easily and as such lowering the rarity. They're still using mechanics in the game, the only difference is that with Pokecheck they're not shooting blind. I haven't used it yet and don't particularly care to, but I'm not going to lose my shit and declare some kind of PokeFatwa on them.

That's not really a proper comparison. Masuda method was intentionally linked to promote global communication, this was something Nintendo intended to keep silent and exploits the new form of shiny generation. I assume they flipped it since it's so much easier to pass IVs, so you could theoretically have as low as a 1/32 chance of breeding a shiny on every egg if you did the math.

Hidden abilities are a bitch. So far I've only done single ability mons (Gastly and Flabebe) and I still haven't gotten one with ideal IVs. Thankfully you can probably get away with 31s in HP and both defenses for a speed boost vennipede but it's still a huge pain in the ass.

I think it's fine if you don't care about cheating. For some Pokemon, I just really like the shiny form and would like to use them competitively, but because luck is cruel that's pretty much impossible without instacheck. But I don't even consider those Pokemon of mine to be real "shinies," as autistic as that sounds. They're just Pokemon on my team with a cooler looking color palette, and they don't have the same significance to me as the shinies I breed for or have caught randomly myself.

Anyways, I posted a few weeks back pertaining to my ongoing shiny hunt on Pokémon Gold for Gameboy Color (because I'm too poor and lazy to invest in a fancy 3DS + X&Y).

News since then include my failure to capture an Abra last Sunday (Nov. 17) over in Kanto. But last night, I captured a level 10 Spearow over on Route 42 while it was sleeping.

Well, now that you asked, prepare for a bit of an earful.

I always random-encounter my shinies; as the hunt is an extension of a Nuzlocke run I initially started, breeding is forbidden. The legit shinies I have captured have only been found and captured after all 16 gym leaders and the Elite Four were defeated, as well as all routes accessed (and only the first Pokémon on that route was captured). In keeping with the Nuzlocke rules, they are also permaboxed and never used in battle.

Generally speaking, I usually shiny hunt while grinding, and the locality means that certain precautions must be meted out and certain members must be present on the team. Of the legal Nuzlocke Pokémon I have and can use, I always carry a couple of "sleepers" (Pokémon that can put shinies to sleep and/or prevent their escape). Meriadoc (my Parasect with Spore) and Lucilla (my Crobat with Mean Look) are ideal for these situation (a VERY good shiny-capturing team).

As for the technical stuff, I have two rechargeable Duracell batteries and a charger. I never take my chances and always recharge every few days or so (depending on usage).

I should also note, I only shiny hunt out of boredom. These include times during public transportation commutes, downtime at work, and when I'm home listening to music and enjoying the repertoire of classical music and jazz.

I've only found one shiny so far, a month ago unintentionally on my x. Since then I tried hunting for a shiny togepi but lost all my motivation to do so. Right now I am in a fire type safari looking there. Started a few hours ago, nothing so far. I'm aiming to get a braixen or a growlithe, but the third one (slugma) is good as well. Wish me luck!

If you have a DS with a GBA cartridge slot you can insert ruby into it and then have either d/p/plt to chain for it on Iron Island. Even though it's rarer pokemon, you'd have an easier time chaining for it rather than MM'ing. I'd do it for you actually, but I got Sapphire instead of Ruby. ;_;

Unless people are going for 5th or 6th gen Pokemon, there's a lot of shinies you can chain for on d/p/plt instead of just MM'ing them. Then again you'll have to wait till pokebank to transfer them over. Either way it's a much easier process for me.

I dont think its necessarily FS that gives more shinies. Post game a lot of people spend time at the safari.

So I think the shiny rate (1/4096) is constant for the safari and rest of the world.
