Burgundy, Trip, Georgia, and the Cameraman were all written off with all being taken out 2 arcs before the saga was even officially over. Trip lost to Ash's companions and other rivals, lost to Ash in the first match of the League with a Pokemon he swept with in the PWT, Burgundy fucking lost to Trip and got no closure, Georgia lost to Iris even though she should've won and didn't get proper closure. Don't even get me started on Virgil and Cameron. The only well-written rivals were Camera Guy and Stephan, who both were enjoyable if that means anything.

Pikachu would only use it in battles where it was dire, and it was a move exclusive to his line. It wasn't spammed by random COTD's or other Pokemon, it was exclusive to Pikachu.

If the anime gets so bad that you can't even watch it anymore, then I'm pretty sure that's a reason why it's terrible.
