Anyway, Digivolution is very different in XW, but it does exist. It'll show up around 30 or so, but the basic, non-spoiler summary is this: In XW, Digimon Digivolve like they age. So in a few thousand years or whatever, Shoutmon's basic form will be something else, and he will be "evolved." However, using the Super Evolution method, a General (or whatever they're called in the dub - the humans) can basically hit fast forward on the Digimon's evolution and turn them into what they'll be if they had evolved the "natural" way.
That's why DigiXros is so big in Xros Wars - before Super Evolution was discovered, the only way to get stronger right now was through good old GATTAI.
