>>16232925See the thing about Chespin is that it broke "muh patterns". It's the first Grass starter that isn't a reptile and no one could actually tell what the hell it would turn into. With previous Grass starters, it would be pretty easy to tell what they would end up becoming seeing how each Grass starter has specific characteristics that're touched upon with every evolution. Bulbasaur had it's flower bulb, Chikorita had it's flower necklace, Treecko had it's tail, Turtwig had it's twig, and Snivy had it's leaf. With Chespin, the only thing that people could really think would be touched upon was the hat/armor it wears.
The fanbase took this as a way to pretty much set Chespin to this standard, because it's design was so different that just one evolution could ruin the line. When the whole Knight theme was revealed, we finally could sort of guess how Chespin would turn out, but it was still quite hard to figure.
The worst case scenario happened: Quilladin. Everyone and I mean, EVERYONE did not want Chespin to become some fat ogre-like hedgehog and Quilladin STRONGLY suggested that. It was so bad that people were making connections between Tepig who was also the "different" Fire-starter and it's line was ruined simply because of Pignite.
However, the knight theme gave hope that Chespin could be saved with it's final evolution, unlike Tepig. When Chesnaught was revealed, a giant sigh of relief was made because although it wasn't the "knight" people were expecting, it was a great enough design to save the line.
>Chesnaught isn't fat lke Quilladin>Chesnaught doesn't have some bigass happy-go-lucky smile like Quilladin which a lot of people wanted to happen>Chesnaught has big bulky arms that turn into it's own needle shield>And it's hat/armor transformed into a bigass shell/shield that can stop tanksChesnaught is the sheer definition of a great final evolution design, because only a great design like this was capable of saving Chespin
