what the fuck happened here. Episode 1 was good in every way and episode 4 had great animation but these 2 episodes were so...meh

episodes 2 and 3 had the better stories imo. Death of Marowak, taking back the Pokemon Tower, learning more about Giovanni, to that epic gym match in episode 3.

All episode 4 was was just fanservice for Mega Charizard X and Mewtwo.

Yeah, basically this. With their limited span of 4 episodes, they made a good choice to tell a good story in each episode (minus 4) instead of giving equal attention to everything, which would have been an unwatchable mess.
