You can see a lot of parallels to older digimon designs in the newer ones they parade around. It seems like they want to recapture the magic they once had. They even gave one of the newer season's protagonists a straight up agumon. They introduce stuff like Venusmon who looks just like Angewomon. They even released a PSP game recently that was just a retelling of Season 1. And then Digimon World Re:Digitize was a spiritual successor to the original popular Digimon World game.
Some of the newer ones get a lot "worse" in terms of like, adding nonsensical armor and huge tits, but it's no worse than, honestly, the best comparison I could make is Pokemon with Mega Evolutions. In respect to Digimon standards I suppose.
