A little disappointed by a certain rated wifi match on x&y. Basically I run a stall team, and we were both down to 2 pokemon from 3. He had leftovers Gourgeist and Rotom-H left. I had Gliscor and leftovers Skarmory left. I poisoned them both and he didn't use Rotom while I had Gliscor out. He kept using leech seed with Gourgeist, while I set up spikes with Skarmory. I would Whirlwind to Rotom and then switch to Gliscor so he wouldn't get the heal from Leech Seed. We did this dance for a while until the spikes finally added up on Gourgeist and I used Brave Bird to get his Gourgeist low enough that toxic would finish it off and that killed off Skarmory so he couldn't leech seed it. So he switches to Rotom who didn't have Leech seed heal now so would die from poison. (continued)

So in the end even though he would've lost because I could wall Rotom all day and Gourgeist was to low to switch in because I had spikes up he won because the timer ran out and he had one more pokemon then me, even though I would've won if he wasn't trying to time out the clock.
I guess you could say that's just another tactic to win, but I think that's really cheap. I didn't know the timer gives the win to the person with more pokemon, I thought it would draw. Otherwise the moment I noticed he was stalling the timer I wouldn't have sacrificed Skarmory. It was a really sad lose...
So how do you feel about it? Is it okay to stall out a stall team by stalling out a timer?

I do lose because I still have a lot to learn, but I have all the roles and bases covered, so it's very rarely been a one sided match no matter what anyone runs, it just never occurred to me someone would timestall, but I'll keep that in mind from now on, and try to keep myself at least even in pokemon if someone is stalling the clock. I guess I learned a lesson so something came of it.

Oh you're going to stall me out and don't have your phazer out? Okay then I'll set up all over you. People just don't plan their team out to incorporate a few moves and then get mad at the other person about it.
I run a stall team, but I can name three things that counter them of the top of my head, Taunt(big time), smart setting up, or heal bell which I hear heals parties status problems though never seen the move used.
Pokemon that are super effective can knock out stallers, and so on, so their's a lot of counters to them but I find them really fun, and the game goes to the person who can outsmart the other regardless of the type of team anyone runs as long as it's well planned out.

It's interesting you bring this up...since I'm actually living in Japan right now (blahblahblah whatever) I've had the opportunity to SEE japanese players as they play. Now me...I make my decisions pretty fast. I've always been like that. But Japanese players are the only nationality I've ever met that spends a ridiculous amount of time choosing a team. Not a move, a TEAM. Typically it's not lag that's causing a delay before they take their turn, they REALLY do take that long to decide. That said, this case was clearly running out the time, but I couldn't help but bring up this observation. Also, a lot of Japanese players frown on minimize spamming too, apparently the ones that do are stereotypically NEETs: Can't face the world so they dodge it.

Actually for me the battle begins before we throw out a pokemon. I spend nearly all the time at the team selection screen narrowing down what three would be a good composition based on what they can send out, and sometimes this happens to me move wise as well as the opponent, where a couple turns you might really think it through.
I try to give people the benefit of the doubt so I don't mind it, but when the other guy is doing it 15 minutes straight down to the last 5-10 seconds without missing a turn, it gets really boring and obvious.

Something i've noticed that could just be purely coincidental, I run a team of five online and whenever the opponent is NA they usually handicap themselves to five Pokemon as well, however foreigners (mainly Japanese) will always, ALWAYS take the 5v6. Honestly I think people become less compassionate in online gaming when they mix with other nationalities. I play a lot of MOBAs and communicating with South Americans and Europeans can be hard because they barely acknowledge, or they flat out grief you if the game isn't going collectively well. Being able to challenge somebody across the world sounds awesome on paper but people everywhere can be excessively harsh.
