>>16275907There are three aspects of being "good" in pokemon.
1. The knowledge factor: Knowing every pokemon's types and what teach type is weakened/resistant too, the base stats (especially speed) of almost every pokemon, what potential movesets any given pokemon can have, things like that.
2. Making the right descisions in battle, as long as youve got #1 down this shouldnt be too hard, despite people making judgement errors constantly. This is basically learning how to predict oncoming moves and switches from the opponent, or from knowing a generale gauge of base stat totals of certain pokemon, deciding to keep your pokemon in and trying to defeat it (Ex: I kept my durant in to fight a choice banded terrakion, because i was certain he would stick around, and i was literally 1 base speed faster than it to OHKO it)
and 3. Getting the most out of every pokemon, which is where 'without using the same teams as everyone' comes in. Knowing how many hits your favorite pokemon can take and damage it can do is essential. You need to use each pokemon to its fullest potential or else, why not use a pokemon that outclasses it in that regard? Use strategies that WORK, not, gimmicks (See above comment) Trick room is a gimmick for most pokemon. Things like, SpeedBerry, reversal sawk with sturdy is the definition of gimmick. If youre going to use an average pokemon like sawk or shitty pokemon like Dewgong, you play to its strengths, not try to make it do things it 'shouldnt' be doing
