Hey guys, I'm coming to the end of D/P in the animu.

Is it honestly worth watching Unova? Or should I only watch to a certain point and then stop? Pretty much every source says best wishes is garbage, and the hivemind had been right about the anime so far in terms of quality.

Should I just skip right to Kalos?

The first part of Unova is pretty decent in terms of potential, it was even amusing to see the characters interact and stuff

That trailed off and ended when the earthquake and the rocket x plasma special got cancelled. From then on, they couldn't salvage the story so they just basically made the rest of it filler and forgot to develop anything during the filler, making the ending to the series lackluster as fuck with absolutely no buildup or real goal, just after we ended with that fucking amazing Infernape Gen 4 ending.

tl;dr: The first half was amusing, the second half was broken dreams and disappointment. Go watch obsessive Serena instead.

We don't even have a Rival yet, which could be a dealbreaker. It's good, for a beginning, but if it doesn't improve it'll turn stale fast. I'd wait until 10-12 eps in to make a fair judgement.

Just watch the gym battles and the really important final battles of the mini tournaments held throughout the series. The rest of it is pretty meh, but Ash's Krookodile, Leavanny, and Palpitoad are actually pretty cool.

If you're curious about Unova, you should watch it in the background when you are actually doing other things. That is the only way to watch stuff that isn't really great but you are curious about/want to watch it just to say you did.

If anything Ash showed just how fucking strong he is as a trainer by confronting that Garchomp and the way he handled Froakie and Fletchling.

The previous Ash loved pokemon with all his heart like now, but he had more personality.

He'd wise-crack and tell awful jokes, but got punished for them often enough to keep it from getting tiring. He'd get full of himself, but then he'd get brought back down to Earth, have to come to grips with his mistakes, and resolve the problem. He's all blanded out now.

Watch the Don/Club Battle arcs. While not contributing to the overall story, they make for a great watch.

Overall it was a really weak season, like (imo) Johto and Hoenn. There's some miscellaneous filler episodes that are good too, but if you want a list of episodes to watch that also include important ones (using the Bulbapedia numbering)

I think that's just the change in dedication to the series. Compare whole scenes of the first few seasons to whole scenes of now and you'll see that really it's not just Ash but the whole atmosphere.

Really? I like that obnoxious laugh. Muk interrupting the phone calls to Oak was getting a little stale and this breaks it up a bit. I got bored of Oak's LiveCaster early on in BW, so seeing it after each episode doesn't really affect me too much, since I just close the player at that point anyway..

At the end of BW, Charizard is reintroduced to Ash's party. Ash then tells his party about how Charizard helped him out tons of times. The scenes used for the flashback were redrawn.

Early on in Episode N, Ash and co attend a Kanto festival in Unova and Ash sees a Charmander on stage, which sends him down memory lane about his own. They reanimated scenes from past episodes for the flashback.

Charizard then gets called back from the Valley and becomes a perma-member of his roster for the remainder of the Best Wishes.

But anyway, I'm on the fence. Because of the magic of digital art, they're all on model, but there's a certain charm about the hand drawn old episodes that's lost in that transition to digital.

I actually kind of liked Best Wishes. The humor seemed stronger, and it felt good to have a serious Team Rocket. Those three were easily my favorite part of the original anime, and to see them go from fairly intimidating to a joke to not even trying make me grow very bitter to Diamond and Pearl.

He's more BW2 N, though. Too bad the whole Plasma arc didn't work.

Also Unova actually has some great shit in itbut the weaknesses like the league and the Plasma arc overshadow all the good.

Kind of. Even though it's the same scenes it doesn't carry that same kind of rough, almost rustic feel to it. It looks sterile and processed.
Admittedly I lost interest in the anime around the RS series but I saw a few Sinnoh eps and they just felt so flat.
