I have a friend who is just like that. But I don't mind it, because I think that Pokemon is great game because there are so many ways to play it: play it for fun, do breeding all day, play to fill your pokedex, play to be the very best, play it for waifus and porn, etc. And I think that none of these play styles is better or more rewarding than another. Just play it your way and let others do the same.

You know, I guess you're kind of right. I interpreted OP as saying "anybody who says EVs/natures/etc. are shit is wrong." But it's just as wrong for OP's friend to say the opposite. What concerned me was OP's statement that "says Pokemon is meant to be played for fun." It sounded to me like OP disapproved of that statement, which would be wrong - people can play the game however they want. But maybe I incorrectly read that disapproval into OP's post. So maybe you're right. At the very least, OP's friend is equally wrong.

That's a pretty normal reaction for someone who is confused by all the competitive shenanigans, he tries to deny it. I had the same mindset myself when i got back into pokemon with BW2, I always tried to understand it but it flew over my head. Now the IVs/EVs are actually exploited in XY making it less confusing, it's easier to get into.

He's just in denial, recommend him XY because the heart of Pokemon is in competitive gameplay, even if you're shit at it.

I probably could have killed it with my Garchomp since I outspeed (speed boosting nature, 31 IV, 252 EVs versus random nature, random IV, and no EVs) and could hit with Stone Edge, but I switched into 4x resist Empoleon to be safe.

For the record, the other Arceus was was Flying type, because it looked a lot like Ice and he wanted to confuse me, or something?

He's actually the guy that got me back into Pokemon with Platinum, too.

Different tastes when it comes to battling I guess.

Only fight he ever beat me was when he used a Darkrai to Sleep everything. I had 3 pokemon asleep at once while he spammed Dark Void and Dream Eater.
