>>16303602Let's say I have my Gardevoir and Garchomp out in a Doubles battle against a Gengar and Klefki. I predict that Gengar is going Mega and is going to rape by Gardevoir with a Shadow Ball or some other STAB SE move. Alternatively, Klefki might try to Thunder Wave my Gardevoir, which is also no good. I use Protect on Gardevoir and Earthquake on Garchomp.
Protect lets my second Pokemon (Garchomp) deal with a threat while avoiding damage from Garchomp's EQ, the main threat being Mega Gengar, while also allowing my Gardevoir to mega-evolve and have its updated speed for the next turn.
That's a really quick example, but Protect is vital in Doubles.
