Gardevoir was heavily like because while it proved to be a pretty strong special attacker, it was widely used and because of its feminine appearance with the hair and dress like bottom, most people had theirs be female. Its pokedex also talks about it being a protector and servent to its master, which activated peoples fetishes and this Gardevoir was elevated to waifu-status amongst many. Its just spiraled out of control now.
