It's got plenty of mindgames and interesting sets that wouldn't work at all in doubles, and takes a lot of prediction.

Because I prefer 6v6 singles. 4v4 doubles just bores me. I want a full team and I want to see more viable playstyles than just hyperoffense everywhere.

All formats have interesting and unusual sets you could use
Sejun Park (top 8 at worlds) used both a Magmar and a Marowak, and Ommati used a Mamoswine.
And I think it takes a lot more skill and knowledge of the game to predict well in doubles than it takes in singles.

They are just very different metagames.

Doubles has a lot more going on, but that's not always a good thing.

Some people arent too fond of everything packing protect, hoping that pokemon was singled out for this particular turn.

I dunno about that. Rain basically allows Scizor and Ferrothorn to lose their Fire weakness. Jolteon could run free Thunder. And Keldeo is, I dunno, a Water type that commonly runs Hydro Pump?

Why can't I do both? I have a singles team on cart as well as a VGC team and multiple teams on sims.

I actually played in a national qualifier a couple days ago which wasn't too bad, and I'm waiting for the next special tournament season to start on Battle Spot. (This season is Gen 6 only, next season is VGC '14 rules)

And yes, it's a mindgame, while your opponent should has protect on half their team you most probably have protect too so they are in the same position.

If you really think doubles are all about spread moves, you haven't played it at all. Unless you are 4x weak or have eruption/water spout 75% damage ain't wrecking things. On top of the fact that you can now spam wide guard/quick guard in Gen 6 that strategy is stupid.

I actually like this ruleset, no more Cresselia and genies and the only pokemon I used that was banned is Togekiss but I just replaced it with male Meowstic
now everyone runs Meowstic though, and they're all double screeners or something like that, nobody wants to run swagger+t-wave spam anymore.

I was pretty upset that I wasted time breeding Camerupt before the tourney, the Dragalge replacement wasn't nearly as good. However the lack of Volcarona was nice.

Doesn't matter though since 90% of all matches were safeguard+swagger klefki and M-Kangaskhan.

I should've done something similar. I really underestimated the prevalence of Kangaskhan, The only things on my team that were even ready to handle it were Trevenant and Scrafty. And obviously Safeguard + Power-Up Punch pretty much nullified both of those options.

What is a good counter to M-Kanga/Klefki lead?

I use Meowstic and Machamp.
male Meowstic is just great for doubles, it has Prankster and all the moves it needs plus the stats to do its job well.
I stole the Machamp idea from the senior world champion, it OHKOs Kanga with dynamic punch and it's also good for spreading confusion. it also has Wideguard.
The most popular Megas right now are Kanga, Mawile and Charizard Y I think, so you should prepare for them.

People are still playing with trick room and it has a lot of nice toys in Volt Switch and Discharge with good neutral coverage via Dragon Pulse plus bulk to back it up. I saw at least 7 of them.

I'm sure VGC '14 will have lots of new tricks though. I saw a couple of people using Electric terrain to good effect. Also a friend of mine using Role Play Greninja.
