Honestly, most of the reason why I personally don't like Quilladin isn't its design but because it's a fucking terrible segway from Chespin to Chesnaught. Nothing in Chesnaught's design is anything like Quilladin, and nothing about Quilladin would ever imply it'll evolve into a Fighting type.
