Solrock and Lunatone came from space, Clefairy came from space.
It's only natural to make the space pokemon fairy typing.
Cresselia and Darkrai both have to do with the moon and dreams, fairy type seems to have to do the moon. I mean, if Cresselia gets Fairy typed I don't see why Darkrai shouldn't.

No, he isn't. Clefairy is the poster child of fairies and it has a huge moon theme. Moonblast is the most powerful Fairy attack AND they bothered to re-type moonlight to Fairy type. It's obvious the moon has a connection to fairies in this game.

So dragons don't have an association with reptiles because of Altaria, Kingdra, and Dragalge? Bug type doesn't have an association with insects because of Galvantula, Ariados, Shuckle, Crustle, Skorupi, etc? Types can draw inspiration from multiple things.

Who said it is? You just can't deny the moon DOES have a connection to Fairy type. Cresselia is a fucking pink girly Pokemon who's probably the largest moon representative in the game. It should have been Fairy type.
