So, this thing is being considered for ubers on Smogon after the even more broken things like Deoxys-S, Genesect, M-Gengar and M-Kanga get the boot.
The reason is obvious: priority Brave Bird/Acrobatics.

It's a magnificent late game cleaner.

With neutral damage and life orb it'll usually take half of the opponents health away. That plus entry hazards will won't be exactly pretty.

Pretty much this. There is no reason to run any other lategame sweeper when you have smogonbird. It might be 4x weak to SR, but by the time you send it out anything that can check it will be weakended (keyword: LATEGAME sweeper) and Flare Blitz/Brave Bird/Acrobatics spam will clean house.

When a relatively large number of matches end with a Talonflame sweep, you know something is wrong.

People who are savvy of the meta game can also run rocky helmet with roost and bulk up, as it makes your talonflame a check for most other talonflame sets if you run a slightly more defensive ev spread. It just requires that you run him differently as you get less OHKO and probably only want to use him against talonflame early game and then sweep mid to late game with entry hazards/paralysis support

Smogonbird is perfectly capable of running surprise moves like Steel Wings or HP Ground to get past its checks.
It only has one non-uber hard counter and that's Regirock, i.e. a shitty NU mon that has no place in OU.

This thing isn't any more OP than staraptor. In fact, it hits like a wet noodle when compared to staraptor. Hell, even crobat can outshine talonflame at flying-type revenge killing. These three are going to party in BL like they have forever. They are the brave bird trinity. One has insane damage, one is a crazy stallbreaker, and one has priority.

It might not be painfully obvious, but Talonflame is very similiar to DPP Garchomp.
In Gen 4 you had to run Garchomp, a Garchomp "counter" and a Garchomp "counter" counter.
Now, you have to run Talonflame, a Talonflame "counter" (Rotom-W) and a Talonflame "counter" counter (Ferrothorn/Gastrodon/whatever else checks that damn thing).

Not running a Talonflame yourself? Enjoy being swpt by that retarded priority Brave Bird.

Oh and rocks are fucking impossible to keep up with Taunt Deoxys-S and Defog Crobat and shit like that. Against skilled players you'll simply not get those up.

It's fragile as hell. Smogonsword can take a flare blitz and take over 50% off.

With chomp you can switch it anytime you want, fake at least 3 neutral attacks, and still has enough hp for a sub.

I must say that the bird has not been a problem for me but I won't deny the potential if it's used right.

The moves it really needs are Flare Blitz and flying STAB so it can do whatever it wants with its other moveslots.
WoW+priority Roost can actually stall out most rock types since burn+roost turns a 4x rock weakness into a neutrality.
Or it can run swords dance+steel wing and outright kill frailer ones like Aerodactyl.

This thing is nowhere as easy to counter as people are assuming here.

Wow, you're right! but talonflame's priority doesn't mean much. Crobat's brave bird is very fast, it's stronger, and crobat has more utility. It clearly has advantages over talonflame, worth the sacrifice of priority. Staraptor is honestly better than talonflame. It's brave bird is second only to kyurem-b's outrage in terms of damage, with a scarf it's outspeeding most +1 mons and hitting for far harder than talonflame could dream of.

Heatran can't wall it forever. It has no recovery other than leftovers, assuming it's not holding air balloon which is usually better, so it will eventually be worn down and 2HKO'd at worst by brave bird/acrobatics.

rock is the single worst defensive type in the game, even worse than ice.
5 weaknesses and ALL of them very common, it's no wonder people don't want to run any rock type in OU other than tyranitar (and they only run it because of its stupidly good stats/ability/movepool, certainly not for the type) so talonflame can thrive in that envirorment.

So does Volcorona, but Talonflame can get to +2 with swords dance on turn one and then doesn't need to worry about defenses or speed boosts because it has 120 base priority and already monstrous speed.

It's incredibly weak to Stealth Rock, but that's nothing more than a check and can be dealt with with relative ease thanks to Defog, though the lack of hazards hampers Talonflame.

Interesting how all the arguments disappeared when they fucking got gud and learned to deal with Reuniclus. Also why do you faggots keep suggesting that you're going to switch in something like that on Talonflame. The only situation in which you would actually switch out of a Talonflame would be if you have something thats weak to it, in which case they will try to brave bird you anyway. With 81 unboosted attack anything will wall you.

For just about any other commonly used pokemon there is no reason to switch out from Talonflame, nobody cares if it tries to kill you with Brave Bird or tries to setup you die to any rock move.

No matter what you switch into faces an OHKO at +2 barring scarfers that resist flying or things with typings like Water/Electric. So your plan then is not to switch? Why would the opponent bring Talonflame in against something that could threaten it or that it couldn't threaten out with a choice band set? The only Pokemon scared of Talonflame are Grass, Bug, or Fighting types. Others easily survive its puny BB and hunt it down.

And if you have a Grass, Bug, or Fighting type in your team, you better have something that you can switch into Smogonbird. That's the way it works for every pokemon. Any flying type would be able to force such a situation.

Talonflame, in my opinion, is in a really unique position. It has a fair amount of counters, but not that many checks. If something isn't a hard counter to talonflame, it can't switch in, because Talonflame can almost certainly KO it with another priority BB the next turn.

my current strategy is to get up rocks if I can and switch to gastrodon if it comes out. If they switch they'll get rocked later and if not I scald them. Alternatively if I know it's going to use a flying priority and it only has a quater of health I'll swap to rocky helmet ferrothorn
