I have yet to play gen 6 seriously, but I got a quick top 50 in Pokebank OU a while ago and am currently sitting at 2100-something. The team is used was pretty much HO with some speed control thrown in.

I just broke 1500, but I'm using an UU team in Pokebank OU because it's more fun to rely on stupid bullshit gimmicks.

A lot of my victories are just from forfeiting after I Magic Bounce their sneaky boulders.

I have a similar story.
I run a double weaknesses team (also pretty green). Every pokemon has a double weakness to something (exept golem who has 2).
Some wins thanks to Magic Coat Magnezone (it's like, they never expect it)

Oh, I belive that Pokebank in Showdown was implied as we were speaking about the ladder there.

I am playing the OU ladder, the pre-pokebank one. The default one. I believed that was implied as we were discussing ladder ratings in the Showdown format.

On topic, Ferrothorn makes a good Protectseeder. Great for seed, poison, sandstorm and other passive damage. Have an Unaware Quagsire and a fighting resist (I like Sylveon for the butt-load of spdef bulk) and you're golden.

I loved Froakie when the starters were announced last year, but his final evo is amazing. He's like a special Scizor, U-Turning out when things get hairy then coming back later and finishing someone off at the opportune moment.

Mamoswine has been a true bro, especially in the presence of boo boo keys.

It's hilarious that nobody knows what the fuck Girafarig is. So many attempted Shadow Balls, and Sap Sipper completely negates anyone trying to use Spore/Sleep Powder/Leech Seed/etc.

Also, Mega-Kanghaskan is ridiculously OP. I love it.

The rating system is messed up, new accounts gain rating super fast

essentially, ladder placement is all that matters. you can't just make an account and top it, as you need to have a lot of battles to be on it. can't just join, derp a sitting or two and be top 10
