Not the best illustration, but why not go the desert lizard route instead of the dinosaur route? Spiky like a horned lizard, round like a bearded dragon basking, etc.

Just going to say this, Bigro shouldn't be in charge of tilesets - his tilesets look really ugly and don't fit the Pokemon game style well at all. There are much better spriters in some of the tripfags and a few anons.

Youre Sydney map is good no question about it, but I think i did a great job in the Brisbane map.
No part of the map looks empty and you use up the entire space with a lot of diverse elements.
The river nicely snakes around the town and there is the hill in the left to add some elevation.

It's not meant to be the starter. It's meant to inspire those who have greater designing skills than me to take a shot at filling in some of the suggestions for a fire bearded dragon late victory road pokemon, as a couple of people were suggesting above.

Just so you know, the hill in the west is Mt. Coot-tha, and the hill in the southeast is Mt. Gravatt. The Pokemon Centre is roughly where the Princess Alexandra Hospital is. The building made out of power plant bits in the east is representative of the Brisbane Powerhouse, a decommissioned power station converted into an arts exhibition centre. The colossal dark skyscraper is the Infinity Tower, the tallest building in Brisbane. The other skyscrapers are all in the CBD. And the colossal building in the southwest with the courtyard-thingy is the University of Queensland.

one suggestion:

when you're in game you have a small viewing space so it'd be real easy to find yourself going shit this place is big/confusing.

if you take out middle bridge it kind of forces you to move through it linearly so you figure it out faster.

Fairbredde City (Sydney) is going to look pretty urban and commercial. Rootberg (Wide Bay) will have some light industry, but should have a really old-fashioned feel about it.

I think tying the horny toad with the blood dragon tree sounds great.
Although, have to agree that directly adding a blood sack maybe a little much.

I'm digging the roots wrapped around the legs. Makes it feel like the tree grew with the lizard.
Plus Dragon/Grass isn't completely insane as a defensive typing, so I can see it going down.

That might not be a good idea as of know because of that fact the potential fire starter is based off a thorny devil.
Plus there might be a bearded dragon lone pokemon. I don't want to make another pokemon that is covered in

Next part of my Great Barrier Reef map.

This part of the route shows an island with a hotel and oceanic research lab. It's based off of a real island off of the Australian coast a little north of Cairns.

I had a few people say that the spikes on it's tail made it look overdesigned, so I took them off. Thoughts?

Once you add the Dive areas it'll look amazing. I can't help feeling like you could stick a small cave into the island to add a little more diversity. Just a small cave (like the Lake Trio ones) to give some variety.

Personally, I think that if a cave were to be integrated into Lizard Island, the entrance should be up around the back, on a side-facing wall. Nice and concealed.

So what's the basic idea for the grass starter? Animal inspiration?

I would love to have... a crocodile. Starts off as a cute lime green baby with blunt teeth and a stumpy green vine tail. Eventually grows into a khaki-coloured sharp-toothed dark green ferocious crocodile, Grass/Dark, with a thick briar tail.

It's probably too similar to the fire idea though.

Here's the newest map of the Great Barrier Reef sea-route.

I've added a cave on Lizard Island, extended the route northwards to the next destination on OP's map, and also fixed up the coasts (apparently, I've been using the wrong tiles for the coasts of the northern ends of islands the entire time).

The tileset I am using has 16x16 tiles. However, the team's current tile enthusiast, Bigro, wants to make a custom tile set which uses 32x32 tiles. Personally, though, I'm happy with the lower-resolution tiles.

Last map of the sea-route before I go to sleep.

I interpreted the second, furthermost brown dot on the OP's map as a cave or a very small town. So I put in an island which has both.

The island at the very end of the route is representative of Thursday Island, the most populous of the Torres Strait Islands. I have not yet put all the finishing touches on the little town, but I think I've got a workable general layout here.

Thoughts?

Have the roots wrap around its body in a particular way, instead of just looking all natural. As in, have them go into a bark vest and shit. That keeps it from calling on Torterra too much by making it more "synthetic"

The only thing I'll say is that the tail is quite... normal, which is unusual for a pokemon. A couple of small spiky barbs along the tail might look better.

I would like the lime-green baby to khaki camouflage adult idea though, but with another animal. I had the idea of a pokemon that holds it's tail up over its head and lets vines fall down to conceal itself. A general theme of camouflage and trickery.

Well first off, the only real argument is that it's a unique typing. And while thorny devils aren't poisonous in real life, the thorns of bushes are (Grass/Poison would have worked better than Fire/Poison). Also, Australian stereotypes.

plenty of pokemon can fly that aren't designated as a flying type so i don't think it necessarily needs that typing
