>>16365236To clarify, here's my thoughts on the starters (first form only).
Charmander is my favorite Gen I starter, but I honestly don't really like any of the designs that much. They just seem too bland compared to the later starters, not to mention the lack of variety. They're all reptiles, for goodness sake!
Gen II fares a little better with me, but not that much. Chikorita's beyond adorable, and I absolutely love her still, but I routinely forget the other two starters even exist.
Gen III is where the starter designs really start to pick up. I instantly fell in love with Treeko, and it's still THE most badass starter. The anime only made my love for it stronger, despite sounding like the bizzare lovechild of Grover and Elmo (voiced by DAN GREEN of all people). Torchic and Mudkip are also pretty darn cute still.
Gen IV's starters took a step backwards for me. Turtwig just looks too goofy for me to take seriously. Chimchar doesn't look quite as cool as Treeko, but I do find it's personality endearing, not to mention I have a soft spot for monkeys. While never my favorite, I used to like Piplup a little more. That horrifically annoying voice they gave it in the english dub/games made it so that I just don't care much for it anymore.
Gen V...where do I start with Gen V?
Let's start with Snivy! It's adorable. It can easily hold it's own against Treeko in a cool contest. Its smug look is hypnotically endearing (not to mention
sexy in the right light). It's the only starter that can go through an entire series that can go through only four battles, win only ONE of them, and still get away with it's dignity intact. It's just that awesome!
