It's most likely a long term feature. Stuff like Super Training is the kind of thing I wouldn't be surprised if they cut out.

But it happened in Origins. Yeah it's not the game but this Gen was obviously meant to explain and introduce it to the series. It's "new" to the universe as it is to us, it'll likely show up in Gen VII and beyond. It's not contests it's related to actual gameplay and they made unique models for them too. It's also plot related. Way too promoted, and liked enough (by the majority) for it to be dropped.
