I just bought Pokemon X yesterday, but I still haven't played it because I'm researching EV's and IV's to maximize my playthrough.

It's a fucking headache.

Can I just play the game normally then come back to this minmax bullshit later? The only thing I'm scared of is not resetting for perfect IV/Trait for one-time Pokemon like the legendaries or other missables.

Is anything missable in this game?

Don't even look at EVs, IVs, or natures throughout the game
It's easy enough that it doesn't matter for the playthrough
Just save it till postgame, breeding is all there is.

Yeah, you can't even visit the IV checker until post-game so don't bother with that now. It's fairly easy to pick up though, I did it after a messy start.

Is there a good guide that /vp/ likes? I've read guides from GameFAQs, Bulbapedia, etc.

Shit's all the over the place and I don't know who has the best advice.

What like a breeding guide?
Just get the power items from BM and an everstone. Then breed like madman until you get an offspring with better IVs, replace parent, repeat.

I can't find a guide that explains those game mechanics in a neat, concise format.

IVs are totally unnecessary unless you're into the competitive scene. Most "missables" besides legendaries can just be bred with a Ditto, and legendaries are guaranteed to have at least 3 perfect IVs, so you don't need to worry about resetting too much.

It's not totally necessary to EV train your Pokemon, but if you decide to try it, Super Training makes it a LOT easier. It does the same thing in way less time, and unlike in previous gens, it's possible to reset its EVs at any point.

Don't worry about competitive shit when doing a playthrough, it's not worth it.

You can't check hatched mon IVs until post game, where the safari has guaranteed 2 perfect IV pokemon. Only thing I did was at least try for non-negative natures which wasn't that time-consuming.

If you can get Pokerus, its possible to ev train lightning fast off of pokemon hordes.

Get a pokemon with sweet scent to attract the hordes, then use another pokemon with rockslide/earthquake that hits all opponents. Each pokemon gives EVs in a horde, which pokerus doubles. EXP share will distribute the horde EVs to the whole team, so you can train your entire team in one stat all at once.

It's recommended, since they ALWAYS have 3 perfect IVs, but if you aren't going to be using them competitively you don't have to.

I didn't do it with Xerneas but I did with Moltres/Mewtwo.
