Nobody gives a shit what Pokemon you use. Most of the people that will kick your ass the hardest on showdown are using unconventional Pokemon with unconventional sets to be anti-meta. Shit like Insomnia Honchkrow against Breloom.

The problem lies in karenfags who are too in their own assholes about using their favorite Pokemon. Making threads outing you for using and/or liking things like Scizor, Garchomp, or even that one thread we have right now where you grade your team and lose points for using higher tiered Pokemon. That's the entire problem with karenfags. It's not simply "use your favorite Pokemon" anymore. It's "I'm going to be a tryhard about not being a tryhard and everyone who is putting more effort into the game than me deserves to be insulted"

Exactly, I don't even play competitive but from just seeing the selection that's in Ubers it seems like with the heavy use of legendaries it basically forces you to not use anything in a lower tier.

There is no middle ground. You like the pokemon you like and if you're lucky they're also viable.

Though it's not unheard of or unusual for someone to start liking a pokemon because it's strong/useful, but on the other hand when you have a favorite you know sucks then you can either choose to take a loss like a man or swap it for one that can actually perform.

Anyway, no, it's not wrong to be a karenfag. Use what you like. Just don't get mad if you end up not doing very well with your team of Farfetch'd/Delibird/Mawile/Ariados/Beedrill/Butterfree. You also shouldn't get pissy if people use strong Pokemon like Aegislash. Some Pokemon are just better than others, and in a competitive environment, it's perfectly reasonable to use the stronger ones.

I don't have a problem with people who genuinely like OU: The Movie: The Novel: The Experience mons, it's the people who are completely unoriginal with their teams and just have the same 6 mons that everyone else has. I take issue with it being more unoriginal than anything, not so much that they're just playing to win. I've reached 2000+ on the OU ladders using a team of UU and below. I got a lot more respect for a player who uses unconventional mons in an effective way.That's what a good player means to me.

tl;dr There are good karefags a d bag ones, same as good Smogonfags and bad ones.

Sure, smogon is nice if you don't know how to use something, but create your own strategies and movesets. Someone rekt me with an all-offense clefable once. it had moonblast, fire blast, charge beam, and something else. they created a unique set that worked. how hard was that. you don't have to run cosmic/stored power just because smogon says its the only viable set.
