I was expecting to get annihilated, but instead this happened.

Actually it is the polar opposite of a solid strategy. It relies solely on luck, the occurrence of which is hardly "solid" at all.

It's viable. And it'll get people frustrated. If you want to do it go ahead. But don't expect it to win you matches everytime.
