Should I get a 3DS and a copy of Pokemon X/Y? It looks fun as fuck. I haven't played a Pokemon game all the way through since Platinum.

So for more info, I just got promoted at work and I'll be making more money to spend on vidya now.
I was going to buy all the parts to build my new gaming PC, but nothing I wanted went on sale for black friday
and decided to save up a little more for some nicer parts.

Now I'm sitting on some money and kinda want to get a copy of Pokemon after hearing a bunch of people talk about X and Y, but I need a 3DS as well.

Which 3DS/2DS model should I go for?

2ds is shit, get the 3ds xl.
they have a zelda one out right now, so if you get that you get a free zelda game.
also look up some exclusives and see what you like, or just get both

Get the 3DS XL unless you're particularly price-conscious. Better battery life, better 3D viewing angle, bigger screen. The only reason to go with something else would be cost.

The meta is pretty centralized right now. You see a lot of the same threats again and again, like M-Gengar, M-Kanga, and Talonflame.
It's by no means broken though, as a lot of different play styles can still shine. I'm loving the competitive play right now.
From a gameplay standpoint, the game is piss easy. And the breeding mechanics have been made way easier, which is good. It means more time battling as opposed to riding a bike around.
If you like pokemon, go for it. The only issues I really have with it are the easy storyline, and shitty frame rate in 3D

online is the same as it ever was, overpowered ev-training tryhards beating you to a pulp but just find some friends and battle with them instead

Get the 3DS XL. I was in the same situation as you and got the XL. I don't regret spending one single € on this lovely piece of hardware.
I paid about 230€ for a copy of Y, the XL and also a nice bag to store it safely.
This is not much concerning how much fun I had with this device since the release of pokemon X/Y.

tl;dr Go for the 3DS XL anon.

You can make a 6IV, EV trained pokemon that is ready to competive play in about 2 hours.

Okay then, XL seems to be the response I'm getting the most.

Should I go with brand new or used? I personally always enjoy buying something brand new, but I did buy a used DS lite when Pearl came out and it held up well for all these years.

A bit of an exaggeration from that anon, but it's SO much easier now, especially with communities like /vp/ where you can quickly and easily pick up breeding leftovers from other kind souls. 4-ivs are pretty much freebies now, and with a breeding pair of those it'll only take a few party-fulls max to get your own 5-iv(s). Super training turns EV training into a minigame. Good luck if you're left-handed though.

I found that most of my games are too soft, even with headphones. Especially with pokemon and Ace Attorney. But I played a game on a friend's 3DS and it was considerably better quality
