Now that we've played with the mega-evos and are used to them, do you think GF will ever include a Pokemon in a new gen where it is the evolution of an older Pokemon, or will they just make a mega evolution instead?

Which way would you prefer?

Also pic related for a mega that should happen.

i think mega evolutions should've only been used for pokemon who are already fully evolved 3 stagers or those who it wouldn't make sense for them to evolve by any other means (such as legendaries like mewtwo).

pokemon like mega pinsir, mawile, aerodactyl, heracross, houndoom, medicham, banette and absol really just should've been seperate pokemon. this to me suggests that there won't be any new evolutions implemented in new generations, unless the fans demand it.

Some Pokemon, like Medicham and Heracross, are too good to have a normal evolution (they're not that great, but good enough that an evolution would overshoot OU). A Mega Evolution works because of the 1 per team limit. Agreed on Mawile though, the fuck.

I think we'll still see regular evolutions.

Megas seem to go to mons that were already fully-evolved or had BSTs/gimmicks that made them competitively viable already (which is a long stretch for some, I know).

Design-wise, it also made more sense for Absol, Mawile, and other one stage Pokemon to get Megas considering the base forms were already pretty popular.

You could literally just take Mega Mawile and put it as a normal evolution, just with stats flattened a bit. Design is perfect.

Megas are an interesting idea with a poor execution. The only Mega I actually see making sense is Kanghaskahn's.
All the other ones were given to pokemon that either a] didn't need them or b] could have used an actual evolution.

Its kind of lame to think that we probably won't be getting any more cross gen evolutions now that Megas are a thing, unless its more eeveelutions for GF to stuff down our throats.

I reckon Megas are a safer option compared to new evos, and I'm not really bothered by the fact Mawile, Absol and co. are now going to be 1-stage for eternity.

If you don't like M-Chomp, for example, you can still use its regular form with no problems. The same can't be said for all pokemon, though, so I can understand the '3-stage pokes only' rule for Mega Evos.

Gen 4's new evolutions were a bit of a mixed bag for me - you had some great evolutions like Roserade, Mamoswine and Froslass which looked good and are still competitively viable.
Then you've got some shitty evos like Rhyperior, Lickilicky, Mismagius and Magmortar that ruined their respective evolution lines.

I mean seriously, I never cared about Magmar anyway but why the fuck would they do that to Misdreavus
We're nearly 7 years on from DP and I'm still genuinely angry about this
