Where dd the idea that he's a flying trainer even come from? I never heard this shit before X/Y and even his non dragon pokemon have traits associated with dragons.
Gyrados is part of a legend about a Koi becoming a dragon
Fossils of dinosaurs were thought to be dragon bones so Aerodactyl is ok
Charizard looks like a goddamned dragon.
Everything on his team fits thematically.

It was just a joke because leaders don't usually pick teams off of themes besides typing. (The only type that all of Lance's Pokemon share is flying) People are retarded about it though and feel the need to overuse the joke whenever Lance is mentioned.

Every mon in his GSC team was a flying type. He actually had more flying types than dragons.
