2.) I hate the notion that the Pokemon world is inhabited by clueless, dumb people. The early seasons of the anime have a dumb habit of this related to science and Pokemon information.
Also saying Kabutops would not be known to Unovians is like saying Asians would know what a Tyranosaurus is but not Americans.
