>>16421265They do an okay job as a nerf, as in Fairies can be decent checks to Dragons but not counters. If typing alone could counter all the dragons, then it would be broken. As for Darks, it was going to happen anyway, Spiritomb and Sableye probably bothered Gamefreak's autism and they gave them a weakness (sort of like how Flying was fine not worrying about hazards and then, boom, Stealth Rocks). Technically, Fairy is also Dark's counterpart and not Dragon's (Xerneas and Yveltal) it just happens to have a type advantage over Dragons. That being said, Fairy is an overpowered type, I'm not looking forward to the inevitable (possible) Pseudo(s)/other Legendaries/More OU worthy Fairies, in future gens that will be a pain in the ass.
