Y is definitely a bigger threat in doubles. If your team isn't prepared for heat wave spamming, Y alone with sweep your team.
Not to mention solar beam hurts Wash Rotom. Mine is 252/252 specially defensive, and still takes like 75+% from a solar beam.
In singles though, I'm sure X functions a lot better. He's a great setup sweeper from what I hear.

Considering he's walled and switched out by common threats (t-tar, Blissey, Politied in rain) and takes 50% from lolsneakypebbles, he requires teamslots for rapid spin/defog support and something to deal with the aforementioned threats.(dugtrio maybe?)
Really, Ninetales probably does the whole 'drought support' thing better, and it clears up a mega slot for you.
But if you really want him on your team, just remember:
Rapid spin/defog support
Something to deal with T-tar

If he learns WoW, use it on filler. Charizard can force switches, considering he hits so hard. Predict a switch, and burn whatever it is that's coming in to wall you.

I can attest to this. Just got destroyed by some passerby in a triple battle with zard Y in the middle. I didn't take it seriously as a threat and just concentrated on getting rid of his shitty legendaries before realising my mistake.

You can run flame charge on him if you want to surprise your opponent when he switches into an otherwise faster counter. That probably pushes dragon pulse off his moves though which makes him have trouble dealing with dragons, or focus blast which helps with a few specific threats. Otherwise your staples are flamethrower/fire blast and solarbeam, the latter of which requires careful play when another weather controller is on deck.

Rotom's hand is usually revealed early in the battle. If you know they're running a scarf, predict the switch and Solar Beam. No Flame Charge required.

Fire stab moves and Solar Beam are really the only things going for him. So if the opponent had bulky dragons left, you don't try to sweep with him.

How good of a partner is Eviolite Doublade with Inferno YZard?

It was something that appeared interesting in my mind but I don't really have any intention of testing it since I don't really play doubles all that much.

Forest's Curse Trevenant as well, though obviously not for Inferno specifically and just as a partner in general.

Dragon Dance, Fire Punch, Dragon Claw, EQ.

If you want more power run Outrage/Flare Blitz, but I personally find 'Punch and 'Claw destroy everything after a DD, and don't have the obvious drawbacks.

DD and EQ are staples though.

No probs, it's the set I run - make sure you run a spinner in your team to get rid of Devious Dolomites and switch in to Mega-Evolve and setup DD(s) when it is advantageous, then watch as you sweep.

forest curse trevenant is hard to abuse since it has such low speed.

That being said, Trevenant is a fine partner for YZard, in testing it's not the best one it can have, but often times teams can't crack Sitrus Berry Harvest. Something like Ttar, which is relatively common, cracks this strat though.

random strong fire move for STAB and Solarbeam are nice due to drought and latter also fucks up Azumaril very nice. Hidden Power Ice is pretty neat to counter that fucking garchomop and fokus-miss fucks up T-tar. Well, if it hits.

Charizard got Tailwind from last Gens move tutor. Flame charge also works okay with the Stab and sun boost (you use it for the speedboost not the damage).
