When I first played emerald back in 2005, I only got the one from Lucy. She's so hot right now. Fuck her stalling shuckle.
So far my favorite facility is dome. Iove that you have to plan which 2 of 3 to send out. I tried the other ones, they're hard as shit.

Happened on way too many R/S/E playthroughs. Fighting through a retarded boss battle was more time efficient than grinding for more levels in a world where the best XP comes from Hariyama in Victory Road.

I usually have about 3 or 4 in the 45-50 range by then and Victory Road bumps them up to a decent level.

Admittedly, that was during my pants-on-head retarded phase of playing Pokemon in which I avoided as many battles as possible. That, combined with how often I used to change my team members out, kept my levels low, while basic knowledge of the game and item abuse let me beat the tougher fights.

Let me share mine then, as far as I remember them:

Pyramid - 1st gold symbol I've got - Tentacruel, Flygon, Metagross.
Dome - Starmie, Flygon, Sceptile - Shedinja over Sceptile for the champion (since it walls his whole team).
Tower - I think Slaking, Dusclops, Milotic. Switched around sometimes, but Slaking always stayed.
Pike - Flygon, Milotic, probably Metagross. Recover was VERY useful! Flygon had Rest too, haha.
Arena - Don't remember exactly, but I'm sure it had Salamence, and probably Starmie.

Didn't beat Factory or Palace.

Honestly there wasn't much wrong with RSE to begin with. Even the too much water thing sounds ridiculous if you've played the games, and even then it made sense with the theme of the region. I didn't even know people hated RSE until coming on here. I loved it at the time because new Pokemon were everywhere whereas Johto was kind of sparse on new Pokemon at least in how few there are in gyms and some not showing up until you really look for them. I guess I just liked Hoenn for being different and feeling like an actual sequel

Too much backtracking and a retarded level curve are my main gripes with it. The water wouldn't even bother me that much if it wasn't that you need a bunch of repels or you're going to be attacked by a Wild Lv.10 Tentacool every five tiles.

I enjoyed it immensely it really tested your skills as a pokemon trainers since you couldn't overlevel it.

However, it was freaking annoying that when you lost a battle you had to start all over again.

Luck is also a factor in pokemon battles and if you lost because of it, you can tolerate it. But having to start all over again with the easy battles is just annoying.

I hope pokemon Z brings something like this again but with some kind of function that when you lose you start at the first battle of the 7 streak were you lost.

It's better than Johto's (I believe I got Silver for my 11th birthday, so I was still a kid and didn't get annoyed with it as quickly as being 14-15 for Emerald) but from Lilycove on the only highly-leveled 'mons are in boss fights. I always end up like five levels underneath the first E4's mons.

I thought the leveling curve was decent, and the backtracking wasn't terrible there were good enough reasons for it but I'm not sure if they'll fix the leveling curve (if it's actually a problem) as HGSS didn't fix GSCs (that upset more than it should have when playing through SS). Yeah the encounter rates on water was lame but repels weren't hard to get and for the story you could avoid the water for the most part which is why that complaint always sounded strange.

Shit, I was going to add to the first part. So in HGSS we get the Safari Zone with more Gen2mons like Murkrow, Misdreavus and Larvitar available, plus you get a Slugma egg early on. Also, the gym leaders' levels are changed up a bit. Falkner, Chuck, Pryce and Clair's pokemon got level boosts (and Whitney's Miltank received a one-level nerf for some reason).

Yeah I always put those on some of my Pokemon. I had no concept of an "HM Slave" until I went on the internet. In Silver, my Pinsir had Strength, Meganium Cut, and some water type Surf.

So why were you so much more underlevelled in the Hoenn games then?
Because battling all of the trainers and wild pokemon puts you at a decent level either the same or higher than the E4 depending on the amount of pokemon you use.

Yes they did good with A) and I'm glad they did that, but I didn't feel they did much with B). Maybe it did have a better level-scaling than GSC but if that's the case I'd hate to go back and see GSC's original leveling scale as it's still pretty bad in HGSS.

No, that'd be Platinum's

However, Emerald Battle Factory > Platinum's Battle Factory.

The movesets in Platinum's were really fucking stupid. Sometimes you just lost because they gave you six pieces of shit top choose from.

In Emerald, Breloom or Heracross sets could sweep entire teams with ease. Shit was too easy with them, but perfectly balanced without.

Makes me almost want to go back to playing Emerald, but I don't think I could bring myself to do it since Gen 3 mechanics are so much worse and Hoenn is the worst region so it's be a massive chore to beat the main game (it wouldn't be hard, just tedious and unfun).

I just don't really like any of the pokemon in the region and it's really the only region I have this problem with to the point where I genuinely have a hard time assembling a team of six. Maybe I should just solo the damn thing with a starter.

Any region can be completed in <4 hours in speedruns.

The only real difference between Hoenn and the others is that your likely to get lost on your first playthrough.

Yes it did. There have been two main graphic styles in pokemon so far, although Gen VI's will probably turn into a 3rd. The early shitty flat graphics of Gens 1-3 and then Gens 4-5 with their pseudo 3D. I don't know what anon is saying about having graphics unlike every other pokemon game. It's a quite clear evolution of Gen 1 and 2's graphic style.

They didn't fix shit in HG/SS, Johto still felt empty, Kanto wild encounter and trainer levels were still fucked and going back to shitphone in place of a vs seeker was more than 2 steps back.

Not saying that it wasn't a improvement over g/s/c, but dropped the ball again.

I mean looking at it with how they did FRLG and HGSS. FRLG didn't fix any of RBY's non-bug issues. They just added a shitty sidequest to interrupt your league challenge, which might have been a fix if the original Kanto had a level curve. It didn't.

Meanwhile, for HGSS, the biggest complaints Gen 2 had was that there weren't enough Gen2mons until after the E4 and the level scaling was pretty bad. They fixed the former with the Safari Zone and they attempted to fix the latter by increasing boss battle levels.

Basically, what I mean is that they've improved how the remakes "fix" the original games' issues, which means they'll do a better job with Hoenn.

They kinda fixed the trainer lvls but they really fixed the gym leaders levels.

I enjoyed the higher gym levels especially since I am using pokemon which require more experience to lvl up. It provided a fun challenge.

I hated the Pike or whatever it's called that Lucy was over. It and Noland's area. I felt like such a loser in that Lucy's Shuckle kept taking me out. Even more was I hated that old Gentleman who's Pokemon would inflict a random status on mine.
